Does anyone have a solution for preventing the separation of hard drive cable headers, as shown in this picture? Every few months, mine loosen up causing boot problems (hang at "Starting Audio") and the drive clicks at startup before the "No hard disk found" message.

I thought about putting hot glue across the header, above and below it where it meets the cable. But, that glue is HOT and I don't want it to melt anything.

But who knows, maybe my problem is a cut in the drive wire by the display connector, or a weakened IDE header. And they resolve themselves when I take the cable out to tighten it, which never was at fault.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The hot melt glue should be fine.

Yup, hot glue is what I use, too. You should be OK as long as you're just squirting the stuff on there quickly. Remember that's what the empeg guys used at the factory, right on the disk drives themselves.

I had the same issue for the longest time. I used UV-curing glass glue, which becomes much harder than the pretty supple hotglue.

i use clear silicone.... it will remain flexible and soft even when it cold.... BUT!!! be very carefull.. never let it touch any pins, pcb... and a few drops is enough... let it dry for 24 hours in a well vented place
