I have a lot of unused CPU time at work on my "email-laptop" at work. I can't seem to get freedb to work through our firewall & I was thinking of this...
Since the empeg has all that space (I have around 20GB free right now), why not install freedb on the empeg?
If I did this, then I could rip CDs whenever I have my laptop & my empeg... I won't need internet access at all.I could go to my cabin for a weekend with my friends where I typically drink & listen to music... If I had freedb access, I could quickly rip, encode , & tag all the CDs that I have yet to finish. All I would need is my empeg, a laptop & electricity.
I took a look at the freedb size ... it is about 315MB right now. That is nothing compared to the 40GB of space (~20free) that I have on my empeg.
The freedb server software is free at freedb.org... Do you guys think that it will run in the memory footprint on the empeg?
Also... I have never cross-compiled anything, so I don't even know where to start with this project. Anyone want to tackle it, or give me some suggestions where to start?
