This is a post I hoped I would never have to make...

My empeg was running fine last night. I did a sync and then listened to the player while hooked up to some self amplified speakers for about an hour...

But, this morning, when I placed the empeg in the car, it would not boot up past the custom bootup logo. :( I slid the empeg in an out of the sled several time waiting about 30 seconds between each. I even restarted the car. After it gets to the custom bootup logo, I hear one of the drives spin for just a moment but there is no activity after that.

Hoping this was just an incar issue, I tried to boot up the empeg with the plugin power supply, but I had the same result... :( I can't even connect to it via emplode (usb).

I have had the custom bootup logo installed for a very long time. I have had displayserver installed since about 1000 songs ago (maybe 6 weeks?)... Running 1.02 Developer.

I am trying to track down a serial cable here at work... any suggestions before I contact support?

Well, I see from your tagline that you just added a drive to your Empeg... The first thing I'd look for is a loose master/slave jumper. I had that problem, and had to electric-tape mine in there to keep it on. If the jumper slides off, your Empeg won't boot. There are a hundred other things that could be wrong, but that was the nature of my problem before. I agree, it's a horrible feeling when it doesn't boot up!

It has been nearly 2 months since the 2nd drive... but maybe that jumper has managed to come loose.... Thanks for the tip. I can''t find a serial cable here, so I have nothing better to do..

Guys, if tech support of #!$%@! commercial software I am saddled with using was anything near this, it would actually be worth its price of 12% - 22% of list price annually
