Does anyone know where empeg-pump is documented? I'd really like to figure out how to "pump" a system manually. This way, I can install an upgrade image by allowing it to flash the unit, then when it (most of the time now) fails to pump on reboot, I can simply retry this manually. The unit is otherwise fine once actually "pumped" (partitions created, etc.).

A duplicate (more or less) of your other threads.

Use my Linux/Mac/Windoze/whatever upgrader.c utility if possible. Faster, and the source code shows how to "pump" partitions from a .upgrade file.

When pumping an existing, parititioned drive, "pump" merely consists of FTPing a new filesystem image directly onto the raw device (eg. cat newimage > /dev/hda? via FTP).

So I like starting threads or something Just trying to catch up on years of activity in one weekend. Anyway, I read through your code (figured you'd based it on that older analysis of the format itself) so I think I can manually pump a disk now. Which is good, and if this works we could replace pumping with a simple shell script running on a Linux host.

That disk I bought started getting IRQ errors, I'm hoping it was just a faulty 120GB disk. Just for kicks, I exchanged it for a larger 250GB disk just now...which will be more fun preparing.

Interesting how the 250GB WD disk I just replaced the 120GB (same model series) OEM disk with is pumping first time on the bigdisk images. Perhaps it was just a faulty disk that had been sitting on the store shelf too long...weird because it was working fine with a USB<->IDE adapter. Next time I'll run bonie++ before blaming the empeg. Of course, I don't know for sure this is going to work, but I'm already a lot more confident about it

Disk I installed: WD250BEVE. ($89.99 in Microcenter as of today - brand new offer just started)
Disk that needed exchanging: WD120BEVE (was $59.99 in Microcenter the other day).

Both run at 550mA max current draw, 5V. And the power supply I have is rated up to 1A, 12V. Beyond that I'm done double guessing what the heck was wrong with that other "OEM" disk I bought.

Well, having said that, the player software failed to pump. But the disk in general isn't generating those tell tail "attempt to access beyond end of device" errors. I manually pumped the player software onto the 5th partition by taking the disk out.

Why I need 250GB is beyond me, guess that's a lot of NPR Podcasts!

Heh.. flac ? (but then the disk never spins down, and can overheat as a result)
