Hi,

Installed V1.03 Beta 3 yesterday on my MK2, the Sound-Beep settings are not preserved on my unit between power downs and some other settings seem to get lost (not spent enough time playing yet to give a fuller picture), this effect is quite repeatable.

Also, which might be releated, the unit doesn't seem to perform timed power downs, i.e. with emplode set to shut down the empeg after 10 seconds, turn ignition off and the unit stays on indefinatley. The yellow and orange cables are correctly wired. If this is normal, could someone please point me to a description of what the behaviour should be please. I might also add, that this didn't work on the previous version of code, so maybe it's hardware related...

I read somewhere on the BBS about inserting a diode in the power lead to prevent a possible negative spike from confusing the power detect sensors circuit, do I need to do this?

Regards,

Does your unit know it's in car? (check for the fader menu option). The diode fix is only an issue if the unit dies instantly when you turn the ignition off (ie, doesn't go into standby).

It's quite possible the v1.03 betas have such bugs, just report them as usual.

You're right, no fader option. I assume it determines the mode by whichever power source is used i.e. Power jack or docking connector sled supplies??

Anything I've missed or should check before contacting customer services? The phone mute & light dim lines are not used and insulated.

Regards,

You could try looking at their beta downloads page. Just a thought.

In emplode 1.03beta I seem to get the an error (see attached) when trying to access playlist tab. If I click a couple of times eventually it will show up. When trying to accesss information tab I never get it. I'm running on W98. Both player & emplode are 1.03beta.
This only happens w/playlists not w/individual songs.

Did you upgrade the player too? I get this error too, but I've only upgraded my PC ('cos i can't upgrade the player at the moment).

Cheers,

Paul.

No, just contact support - didn't we have your unit in for a check over recently? Murphy is obviously busy at the moment...

Hi,

Yep, was sent in for a faulty display and problems shutting down when docked in the car sled! The problem seems to be with the DC jack's detect switch, I've jiggled the wiper around a bit to make the connection again and it now works (for the moment), as soon as I insert the DC jack it fails again. Just as a matter of interest, these switch contacts are generally unreliable for signal use, if some current is pulled through them (as would normally happen in most applications), the insulating oxide layer on the contact which builds up on any air exposed switch, is removed by the switched DC current. I guess you're using this as part of a high impedance input to a port? It's a pity you didn't do the detection directly from the supply rather than through an unreliable switch contact.

Should I return the unit as a matter of course?

Regards,

Yes both were player & PC were done I still get this error & maybe it's the way it should be after upgrade but all the previous filled out fields in the playlist tab are blank i.e. randomize etc. When I switched back to 1.02 it worked fine & the fields were as before. I thought maybe it was because the first time I didn't remove 1.02 emplode before I installed the Rio version beta & actually had both running or present, but after trying again removing 1.02 completely then installing 1.03 beta it still does it, even after a restart.

When I do get the error message to go away I still can't get to OK & have to cancel & back out w/o any changes done.

I've installed 1.02 back onto both PC & player then reinstalled 1.03 beta3 (again on both) & still get same results.

No current is drawn, no (well, maybe half a mA) - problem was, the first mk2 build they changed connector supplier from the ones used in the mk1s (which never failed, basically).

Ideally it should have been done in other ways, but we were trying to avoid diode drops ISTR. You live & learn :)

Has a better source been found? If it's going to be a re-occuring problem for MK2 users, then may be an overide setting in emplode for users that seldom use the player in both modes, I know it's not ideal but at least an easy work around (software always fixes hardware!).

Regards,

PS. I'll return my player when my MK1 has been fixed if that's okay?

I have installed 1.03 beta developer on mine with displayserver and the ir hacked kerbal which is working fine but i am getting similar problems

In the car it knows it is in the car ( boot logo, fader, dimmer etc) and the following settings are lost after a total power down beep level and dimmer settings it is powering off after the 90 seconds i set it to as well but haven't tryed this at any other settings

In the house it knows where it is again boot logo no fader etc. and the beep settings are lost after unplugging.

The song position is remembered fine and the visuals are remembered fine. Another small point it sayes starting radio module which is wishful thinking as i ain't got one yet.

Emplode has this nasty Rio logo but i don't think we can fix it yet and i am having the same problem with accessing playlist info

The replacement parts we fit are the original manufacturer ones. Yours appears to be the only case which it has ever recurred...

I'm away in the US at the moment, and I didn't get a chance to check your mk1 before I left (and mk1 fixing is definitely still my bag, baby) so send back the mk2 to be there on monday if you can & I'll try and get both out in the same shipment.

I was about to upgrade to the latest 1.03 once I found the relevant emplode. I'm too scared to now. I think I'll stick to 1.01 for the time being.

If you read the release notes for the latest Beta (1.03-beta6) you'll notice that the loss of some settings over power cycles has been fixed.
