So I'm browsing engadget today and I see this. And I'm thinking, they totally ripped off my idea! Here's the one that revlmwest and I built back in 2002 for the Cincy meet. Just thought I'd share my nostalgia moment...back to your regular programming...

He had some family issues and moved back to Oklahoma. We sorta lost touch after a while. I haven't talked to him in over a year now.
I'll ping him and see if he wants to update the thread.

Yeah...me too. Ian came to the third Cincinnati meet and we worked him to death upgrading the memory on all our empegs, and not too long after that he dropped off the face of the earth. Hope we didn't scare him away.

He left the ministry (officially), became Episcopalian, discovered Glennfiddich, and married the hottest woman he's ever met... So overall he's good. Hey guys. Its good to be remembered. This is by far the most amazing online fellowship I've ever seen, which probably explains why even though I had to sell my empeg and post iPod couldn't justify another one... I still have my old EMPEG license plate in the garage. I come back and lurk from time to time just to see the old names and eaves drop on your lives a bit. Thanks again for how much you all mean to me and the part you played in darkest days of my life thus far. I'll do my best to be less of a stranger. May those that love us, love us. And those that don’t love us, May God turn their hearts. And if he doesn’t turn their hearts, May he turn their ankles, So we’ll know them by their limping.

Nice to hear from you!
What denomination did you follow before? I always assumed it was Baptist, though I could certainly be wrong. If it was, though, you pretty much made as big a move as you can within the protestant world.

Not only Baptist, but Southern Baptist. So yes you're correct. I have quickly become a Southern Baptist ministers worst nightmare. Not because I don't like them and I certainly don't harbor any ill will... I just know where all the skeletons are buried.

Not only Baptist, but Southern Baptist. So yes you're correct. Actually, that would seem less far to me. I was thinking about top-down control of the organization, which became pretty strong with the SBC in recent years, to the point where I don't consider them to be Baptists any more. They have more of a presbyterian polity, from my point of view. (Not that I'm implying that they have anything to do with any of the named Presbyterian churches.)

You're certainly correct that Southern Baptists are the less individualistic along the Baptist spectrum. However they are still completely autonomous churches with no direct leadership from the Southern Baptist Convention. However governed by a few they may seem, this is more the power of propaganda than of any real control.
My reference to change has more to do with theological differences which I've always found much more interesting anyway.

To be honest, I would highly recommend just buying something like the Ion Audio Tailgater, or go to a hardware store and get one of those construction site stereos like this one and use the AUX input. I was never able to work out issues with mine with the audio cutting out every couple minutes. The power supply was a 8-16V DC/DC power supply that put out clean 12V (and 5V). I had it left over from a previous automotive computing project. That was overkill...I could have hooked the empeg straight to the lawnmower battery that I had inside, but I didn't want to risk ruining the empeg. The speakers were 12V also and got power from the same source. The battery charger was one of these things. Seriously though, just get something that's pre-made. None of those options were available at the time and we spent a lot more making our own than any of those options cost.
