I've been into the Empeg device since it first came out... had several units since.

A few years ago I got a car with an ipod interface, so I went and got and ipod and things were great!

Unfortunately i've outgrown the size of even the largest ipod and I like to have all of my music with me... Since the empeg display extender was released I've thought about going back.

Unfortunately, I noticed that FLAC Support didn't come until V3 alpha, which from reading the forum there are just way too many bugs to be used at all.

Is this still the case? Is there anyone that is using V3 on a regular basis with FLAC Files and not having major issues?

I think last I heard it was pretty reliable, but you have to downgrade to 2.0 final to upload files dependably.

Interesting... So every time I want to upload music to it, I have to downgrade it's firmware?

Yikes... so while it's in v2.0 mode, emplode will allow the uploading of FLAC files and will read their ID3 tags? Or is there a different version of emplode..

The achilles heel of the empeg has always been the difficulty and time it takes to get stuff into the darned thing. The v3alpha firmwares merely make this slightly more troublesome than usual.

When I was actively loading tunes onto my own players, I wrote some Linux scripts to do it using emptool, just to avoid the whole need to feed and care for a GUI.

But I don't think those scripts work anymore, so lately I've been using Emplode inside a win98/VMware session to adjust things. Seems to work, even on v3alpha.

Cheers

Yes, I remember spending days getting music onto the thing...

But, once music is loaded, it plays back fine no issues? Does it crash often?

Seems to work well enough for most of us. But there are one or two reports where things just never worked. In that case, just revert back to v2.01.

Cheers

I've been using v3alpha11 it came out. I've got got a mixture of ogg and flac files and the flac files work much better. Playing ogg files seems to take up to much CPU time and will crash the empeg sometimes if the visuals are on. I don't seem to have this issue with the Flac files.

I have three issues with the alpha:
1) Loading music can and will fail. If I only do one type of action in Jemplode sycn and restart Jemplode it will finish syncing more often.

2) When The empeg starts up sometimes it revert back to the last album played album from the timestamp of the album that was playing when I turned off the car.

3) The Down hold down trick to take you to the last place in the playlist sometimes goes to far and might enqueue the same item playing or stop at the menu to pick enqueue and the other options. I have found if I release the hold down just as or before the hourglass appears it will end up in the correct place.

I use it as well without too many issues.

Make sure you use the latest Hijack kernel, because Mark has fixed some issues with it.

Use JEmplode to load music and then completely exit and restart JEmplode between each sync.

Can you perhaps re-post/attach the exact jemplode binary you use with v3alpha11? Or maybe just the md5sum of it or something?

I *think* I have all of the versions here, but I don't know which one works with v3a11. Version numbers are useless, since there are multiple binaries that report the same version..

Thanks.
