Ok, that one needs a planer... And possibly needs to be shortened to remove that cracked piece off the end. I bet Mark can fix it.

How old is that thing? 60? 100 years? Or maybe it was just made to look like that last week. wink

Plastic is the best you can put them in the dishwasher and they don't damage knives. I can't see how a stone one wouldn't wreak a knife. Also if you can't get a granite counter top absorbs water and oil why wouldn't a cutting board do the same ?

I would not use wood just because I can't put it in the dishwasher. Ok I can and have but they don't last long when I do.

I've seen similar research elsewhere, pointing to the same findings. I'm definitely a wood man.

If you get the right wooden board then the surface doesn't really degrade much at all. My main board that is used everyday, that is 5+ years old, looks hardly used yet. Plastic ones seem to quite quickly pick up long scars that hold liquids right near the surface.

My wooden cutting board is 8 years old. Bought it at Ikea for a song. Ideally, like the example Glenn posted, you want to be cutting on the ends of the wood and the cutting board constructed of a ton of pieces attached together. I've never even sanded ours to refinish the surface yet.

Well,that make sense.
granite can be hurt easier by knife.

Have you wash away stains ??

Try to use special detergent. It works.

Just letting it sit and, I assume, the moisture slowly evaporating, has greatly improved it. I would guess in another week all signs of the stain will have disappeared.
