I have just bought 2 WD laptop drives (WD5000BEVT-00A0RT0) used as system drives and I am seeing the LCC count increase by around 10 per hour.

Should I be concerned?

If so, can the wdidle3.exe utility be used on 2.5" drives? (I have found both version 1.03 and 1.05).

Thanks.

Dunno. I've not had new-enough WD 2.5" drives to notice the issue. But thanks for pointing it out -- someday I'll probably get a new drive, and have to do something about it then, I suppose.

Mark, do you think it would be OK to run the wdidle3.exe on a 2.5" drive? I would like to disable the timer completely if possible.

BTW, counts are now averaging closer to 20 per hour.

Dunno.

Try contacting WD about it --> they might offer to send you a firmware update or a custom wdidle program for it.

Cheers

Ugh, it appears as if laptop HDDs have aggressive power saving features built in, but wdidle3 may work, or hdparm may be a solution.

Other posters there seem to think that a high count is not a problem and the only reason for disabling the parking is noise.

Oh well, I may just put up with it for the time being since the noise is not audible to me.
