Still thrilled to death with my player...I can give enough props to the empeg team for building such a great product.

I just have a quick question regarding the knob on the player. Someone in another thread alluded to a "loose" knob...and that sounds like a problem I'm having with the player.

Sometimes the knob doesn't work..it spins without having that clicking feel to it (pardon me for being too technical). This tends to happen when it's hot inside my car, and will always get better as I drive with the A/C on.

Somebody mentioned a replacement knob..is there a newer design for that component that might help me here?

Yes, there's a new and improved design of the knob solving just the problem you describe, slipping when hot.
Contact [email protected] and they'll sort it out.

..or you can fix it yourself pretty quick by pulling off the knob, putting a small dot of glue on the shaft of the rotary control and after the glue is hard enough put the knob back in it's place. You'll see that it won't slip again.

Oddly enough, I have only experienced this once on a very hot day, then it cleared up. Now, I've had my player for almost a year now (sn 8...408), and I thought I'd only heard of people experiencing this after a short while! Oh well, everything's working fine for me now!

Be careful about using glue - if you ever need to open up the player, you have the remove the knob to get the colour faceplate off. If the glue isn't fully set before you put the knob back on and it sticks, then you'll probably break the rotary control when you try to remove it. email [email protected] and we'll send a replacement knob to you free of charge.

Greetings!

Even if you are having the problem on occasion, or even just once, send for the replacement knob anyway. This way it is taken care of, and it will never be a problem again. The empeg folks are very good at handling this, and it is worth the email.

I had this problem in my car once, and found it mildly annoying. I wrote in and received the replacement knob in days, postmarked the day I sent the email out. I didn't seem to have the problem anymore, so I just put it in my desk until I changed the faceplate on the empeg. I put the knob on then, as long as I had the old one off anyway.

The new knob feels slightly firmer - the O ring, I guess.

Mine does it for about 5 minutes after getting into my car after an extremely hot day... (not bad enough to warrant putting the replacement knob on yet..)

...Still (barely, pending 1.1 release) proud to have owned an Empeg since 00287

For some reason my knob here in cold cold Finland seems to do it too. It started a couple of days back, now it barely ever 'spins correctly' just slides. I'll be mailing support also.
