I think my empeg has problems with soldering of the IDE connector. If I open the empeg, and have the disk & mounting plate taken out (cables still connected), the empeg boots up usually OK. When I place all back into the case and fix all screws again, it sometimes works OK, sometimes not. When opened, and pressing here or there on the motherboard, it works sometimes OK as well.

To me this seems like a problem with soldering of the IDE connector, although visual inspection did not show a clear issue here.

Any suggestions how to get this fixed? I can't solder such things myself...

Could be the soldering of the header OR the crimp on the cable.

Any decent electronics tech (TV etc) could resolder the header. I think Eutronix above can supply replacement IDE cables.

Maybe also post a boot log of working and not working but from the info you've provided it sounds like the cable or the header.

I already got a replacement cable from Eutronics few years back, don't know though whether I placed it in this empeg or my spare (now dead) one....
