Well,
it was small, but it was fun. Only 4 people ended up showing up (guess we should try to plan it a bit better next time) but we still had a good time. It was July 28th at Fair Oaks mall in Fairfax, VA.
Pictures are up at http://www.clemsonjeep.com/empeg for those who are interested. My personal favorite picture is the "Stack o' empegs", which was a very precarious picture as we were all praying that a strong gust of wind didn't blow by and knock them all over!
Also be sure to note the 100% ratio of vanity plate owners. I guess its a prerequisite for living in Northern VA. :)

If the owner of that Mk.1 would like a non-broken faceplate, email [email protected] and we'll send one to you. Mention that I said there would be no charge.

Hehe, his player had more "War Wounds" than just that.
Finally seeing a Mk1 made me appreciate the fantastic production job of the Mk2.
So anyway, it was fun! Hopefully we'll get together a bigger meet the next time (and maybe convince empeg to come out for it). I want to have some contests, even if I know I won't win any! DiGNAN

War wounds, indeed! Taking the thing out of the dash is almost an olympic event now. Anyone got a clue why it would become more and more difficult over time to remove and insert it? Also, it's becoming quite finicky about starting up, particularly when hot. Ah well, it's character is begining to be matched by the car itself, so I'll live with it happily.
Anyway, the worst of it was, I wasn't even present when it got chipped! Ah well. I still love it (though I like my wife's mk2 a little more).
Thanks Rob, I appreciate it.

Yeah, my Mk1's green face has a similar broken corner, only I glued mine back together. Maybe I'll write them, too... ___________

Yes. If you look at the sides of the player, you will notice that the scratches from the side-bumps are turning into rough gouges instead of faint scratches. I reported this problem last year. My work-around was to bang on the side bumps with a hammer (from the inside out) to loosen them up.
They fixed this problem on the Mark2 by redesigning the sled slightly, after seeing Brian Mihulka's work-around. Brian made some C-shaped cuts around the side bumps in the sled (picture). This is how the Mk2's side bumps are now implemented.
I think I'll put this one in the FAQ. ___________

Damn thought I posted to this thread. I guess I had a brain fart and forgot to click 'Continue' or something. Hey, leave me alone. It's monday.
I'm from Jersey, but I was in the N. Virginia area this weekend and I stopped by the meeting place..unfortunately, I couldn't get to the area in time and I was...oh, a couple of hours late :(

Oh, man. that's too bad. what time did you get there? We were in the parking lot for about an hour, then we had lunch for almost an hour, were back in the lot for about 20 minutes and left. All totalled we were on our ways at about 2:30-3:00.
Oh well, maybe we'll have a whole east coast thing sometime.... DiGNAN

[insert personal deity here] can you get more mud on that jeep? I think the hood is a bit too clean.
Oh, and a side note for everyone else looking at the pics. It's not by accident that all four drivers of the cars have personalized license plates. VA makes it INCREDIBLY cheap to have them. It's like an extra $35 a year. As a result, VA has the highest number of personalized plates in the USA. How do I know? Yes, I had 'Kazama' on my license plates when I lived in Norfolk, VA.

I looked over the pictures, the foliage in the lineup image is crisp. Since the title is DSC00008.jpg, I'm guessing it was taken with a Sony of some type.
So, what magic was used to generate that pic?

I seem to remember is was Arthur C. Clark who wrote that.

Yep, it's a sony. I actually dropped the resolution down from the 2048x1536 resolution they were taken at. It is a Sony Cybershot DSC-S70.

Haha. Yeah, my Jeep was pretty much coated after that trip. It was a blast though. My favorite picture is probably:

Yeah its a snorkel for the air intake box.. it wasn't hooked up though because it gets in the way of his extra battery he had to install for the winch/other gear he has.

A guy who does some graphics design work for us has one of those old WWII rack trucks that actually has a snorkel. One afternoon Frank is out fishing with his daughters and when he gets back to the boat launch he can see the snorkel sticking up from the water, apparently the truck had rolled in due to a snapped e-brake cable. Since it was dusk there were not a few rednecks around just waiting to see the idiot owner of the sunken truck come back & generally have a *hitty time of it. Frank pulls the boat to shore, strips off his shirt, dives into the cab. About 10 seconds later the SOB starts and DRIVES it out of the lake. He was instantly offered memberships in at least two local militias (although Frank refuses to acknowledge this last bit). I love NH.

I am sorry I missed it. Wasn't even able to find a new home for my dogs yet. :(
And I also have a vanity plate although I am thinking of changing it.
If there is another one this year, plan it for mid-November before Thanksgiving. I should have less things to do by then... I hope...
