A Canadian acquaintance would like to run his own SIP-based PBX in his company. He's apparently having a hard time finding a good SIP provider, as most of them offer only hosted solutions or virtual PBXs. Since he'd like to run his own hardware in-house, that's not what he needs.

I found http://voicenetwork.ca/voip/voip.php?page=3
Are they any good, or are there others out there someone could recommend?

Cheers,

-Peter

I don't know. Do you have any experience with this provider?
Is it feasible to use an US SIP provider or are there any restrictions?

Both Mark and myself are using voip.ms - I also have a few friends using their services, however none of us are using our own PBX. I don't imagine it's any more difficult setting up using voip.ms versus most anyone else in that regard however. And they do have wikis available for a number of different setups, as well as a somewhat active customer base.

We have used voip.ms (in New York) as a failover for our T1 in the past. They work when Verizon doesn't and nobody in my office was able to detect a difference in call quality.

We were using an in-house Asterisk server. Setup with voip.ms was as painless as can be.

Yup, voip.ms is the defacto standard for us Canucks! Despite the exotic domain suffix, they're based in Montreal, Canada, with servers in lots of more useful locales (including London, England).

They claim very good interworking with customer SIP-based PBXs, and it's pretty easy to sign up and try them out for just a few dollars.

Cheers
