My wife is asking me to get her an empeg now. Since I've spent the past 5 years restoring her Rabbit she says she wants the 'perfect' sound system and that means a good condition MkII for the dash.

HD size doesn't matter as long as the unit is fully functional and has a sled with no clipped wires(or no wires clipped at the plug at least).

Willing price range? Might loosen the grip some hoarders have on their 3rd or 4th spare unit. And might a MkIIa (Rio branding not empeg branding is the only difference IIRC) meet your needs?

There were some other differences too, like 12mb ram vs. 16mb.

Would pay up to $300 for a unit. It actually depends on if it's a MKIIa, size of the HD, mods done to it, etc.

I have a near virgin unit that my wife keeps trying to take and I'll fight her to the death over it. Time she's gotten her own! wink

@Stig; chap's in the UK or I'd have snapped up two of them.

Uh...no? I'm in Oregon, PNW. Rose City, where Pabst is still the favourite beer of the hipster masses.

I'd prefer to not pull a unit from overseas as I've had some bad experiences with getting merch from UK sellers before. Not sure what those postal workers do with their packages but I think they ship them over the Big Water via cricket bat express.

It's very strange. PBR is probably the post-game beverage most frequently pulled out of hockey bags at our local rink, here (Sherwood, OR). Even when someone brings some fancy microbrew, people will still take the PBR, first.

Yup. No clue why they do it, but that beer is still popular. I put it along the same lines of quality as Schlitz and Blatz.

Been a long long while since I've been here.

How can you tell is its a Mk2? My serial # is 060000046. IIRC, I have 2 drives in it, but I believe one of them is failing and needs to be replaced. Don't recall the sizes, but if you want me to look I can. Also, I have the radio module for it as well.

It is in good shape.

EDIT: Just plugged it in and one of the drives is definitely knocking, and will need to be replaced. It was running Hijak 508.

I'll include the power cord, radio module, empeg, remote control and mount.

If interested, email me at clemsonjeeper at gmail.com - I don't check here nearly enough.

Mark 1 has no volume knob and a flat front.

Mark 2/2a has a sculpted front and a volume knob.

Mark 2 has a volume knob with a round shaft.
Mark 2a has a volume knob with a keyed shaft.

Mark 2 has the Empeg name on the lid.
Mark 2a has the Rio name on the lid.

All of the above assume that lids, display boards, and knob encoders have not been swapped/modified (possible but rare).

FAQ entry: What is the difference between the empeg Car and the Rio Car?

Hi,

Power it on. Press in and hold the volume knob, a menu will appear on the display. Rotate the knob till the "Vital Signs" is highlighted. Push the volume knob once again.

It will display the hardware configuration. It will tell you that it is a Mk2 or Mk2a in the upper left hand corner of the display. Hijack v508 should also display the amount of RAM next to the Mk2 or Mk2a. A Mk2 has 12MB, a Mk2a will have 16MB of RAM (unless it has been upgraded). The next 2 items displayed on the same line are the size of the drives installed.

As an example, most of mine have the following display:

Mk2a: 16MB, 244+244GB

Which is a Mk2a with 16MB of RAM and 2 each 250GB Disk drives.

Ross

Here's a photo of it.

I have it for sale. If you're interested, send me an email to clemsonjeeper At gmail dot com.

It comes with the mounting sleeve, the power cord, the factory radio tuner, etc.

The hard drives will likely have to be replaced (at least the boot one).

If you can tell if its a Mk2 or whatever from the photo, cool. Let me know. I'd like to get it out of the house. :-)

Yup, I have a remote. I believe it is Rio Car branded (might not be), but they are the same anyway.

Hi, are you still looking for a MK!! in the US? I have a MKIIa for sale and am in San Francisco. Not sure of the disk size, as it has been in storage for quite awhile. It includes the sled and the remote and is in excellent condition. Everything works. Let m know.
