Well, I blew fifty bucks again on music last night and it didn't even budge the free space left on the empeg.

I need to tell my wife to get a raise or something so I can fill this thing up quicker. 11 Gigs used out of thirty six is pretty friggin pathetic.

I think I have every orb, orbital, william orbit, chemical brothers, crystal method cd there is available, along with any other band you can think of and yet I still have this empty feeling knowing that I *could* have more.

You've still got a long way to go. To give you a slight idea:
my entire mp3 collection is now 46gigs. This is 5885 files. 3/4 of those files are dance and thus extended (as in +/- 6min long) versions.
I don't see how I could ever get 60gigs completely full. Of course I could fill it with everything I have on Cd, but that would also mean I would put the songs on it that I don't like and I believe that is not the purpose of this device.

That's interesting... I have lots of Orb and bits of the others but have never heard of Crystal Method... should I have?

For shame! Yes you should have heard of Crystal Method. You probably have but don't realize it. For a sample, check out this Gap ad. Vegas is a must own album for anyone into electronica IMHO.

I've certainly enjoyed them. Run down and give them a listen, see if they fit your taste!

Crystal Method's "Vegas" is a great album.

Even Tanstaafl likes it, and he's a Classical nut.

Greetings!

I have about 9 GB left on mine. I did put everything I have on CD onto the empeg. Granted, I have a playlist of favorites and I don't listen to most of it regularly, but it is there if I want to. Also, I run displayserver and use it as a jukebox for my workgroup. It comes in handy.

But, yes, it is possible to fill it. I have done it before...

Hah! That's what you get when you're trying to please everybody! On my Empeg, only the stuff I like is put on it!

*Whack!*
(oh, yeah, and also the stuff my girlfriend likes - ouch! )

Simple, just re encode everything at a higher rate. With larger files you'll fill that puppy up no worries. Or, just put duplicates of everything on. C'mon! you're just not trying hard enough!

Greetings!

Actually, I have had a lot of requests for stuff I have never heard of before. People lend me CDs, I listen and (if I like them, obviously) I buy / encode / upload. I have actually found a lot of very cool music this way. Plus, you never know when you will be in the mood to listen to "The Phantom Of The Opera", or some Sam Kinison, or some...

Crystal Method's "Vegas" is a great album.

I think what we're dealing with here is a band that never made it in the UK... the Guinness Book lists one song that made it to #39 in the charts (Trip Like I Do) and two more that didn't make the top 70. None of the three record shops nearest to me carried any Crystal Method when I looked this morning... oh well, I guess I picked a bad day to give up my Amazon addiction...

Very true, but I see you've also got the space for it. I suppose you're using 2 IBM travelstar 48gig HD's? AFAIK this is the most you can squeeze onto your empeg (for the moment)
I'l also thinking of adding such a drive to my empeg, so I know they're costly.

I've got a 10gig now, and I suppose the Empeg guys also use IBM drives? Would it be wise to add such a 48gig drive as slave to the 10 gig drive, or should I rather have them switch places and make the 48 gig the master and the 10 gig the slave? I know that in theory this should come down to the same thing, but there may be practical issues that I'm not aware of.

I guess you can say that there may come a time that I want to upgrade again and then it would be less work to remove the 10 gig and add a new drive. The 48gig also spins faster, but I guess this matters extremely little because I've read that the drives are most of the time spun down.

I think there's some Crystal Method on the soundtrack for The Matrix.

Greetings!

To be honest, I have never really mixed and matched drives in the empeg. It has always been one pair or another. I think there were some issues about mixing different manufacturer's drives (i.e., Toshiba and IBM), but I have not read anything about two drives by the same maker. I know other people have upgraded to mixed IBM configurations on the board without problem, though. Perhaps one of those people could take it from here...

I just added a 30Gig IBM as a slave to the stock 12Gig IBM. There's no reason you should switch them that i can think of. the software doesn't care.

Thanks! This is good to know. Now I guess the real trouble will be getting my hands on such a Travelstar 48gig. They're VERY rare over here and I still have to find the first reseller who has them in stock.

Is it? I can't find it on my copy. Or is it under a non-obvious name? Or maybe the US/UK versions are different.

Speaking of the movie, when I was travelling in Spain last week, they kept playing it as the movie on the trains. Most surreal listening to Nick Cage speaking Spanish .

Roger - not necessarily speaking for empeg

Well, Vegas finally turned up... I had found it in the big HMV in Cambridge, but the price of the CD was 29% less on Amazon. Unfortunately, when everything else I felt like buying "while I was there" on Amazon is taken into account, it was 900% more expensive.

Good album (so far).

And according to IMDB/Amazon, it was used in the film Gone In 60 Seconds, but doesn't appear on either soundtrack CD.

I just checked CDDB and found that to be the case.
My bad, I guess it's true what they say when you assume.

The song used in the movie was Busy Child.
