Recently , I bought a new Car.
Now I have a Citroen Xsara 1.4.

I Installaed my Empeg.No Problem.

But I bought new good 165mm front speakers.
They are to deep and when it's raining there water on the speakers

I protected them temporarly with plastic sheets but sound quality is (with bass, sound is bad)

Does anyone have an idea how to protect them properly ?

Factory speakers often have a stiff plastic shield that sits above them to keep the rain water off. You may be able to buy something similar. You are not going to be able to stop the water coming in.

Stereo shops sell foam backings you can mount behind the speakers. They are bowl-shaped pieces of foam. Check with a stereo installation shop for more information. These will keep the speakers dry.

Something else that is important to know:

Modern cars have what's called a "Wet door" design. The inside of the doors get wet on purpose, and drain out through holes in the bottom of the door. There is usually some kind of a plastic barrier between the upholstery and the inner side of the door. If this "vapor barrier" is cut, removed, or broken, the inside of your car will get wet.

My VW GTI had a problem where its vapor barriers came unglued after the car was several years old. I couldn't understand where the water was coming from. The floor was SOAKED, badly enough to smell moldy in the winter. I kept trying to seal holes in the floor, not realizing the water was coming in through the doors.

Finally, I read about these door barriers and popped off the door panel to discover that they had in fact come unglued and water was streaming down the inside of the door into the car.

My point is: Whenever you do any work mounting door speakers on a car, be extremely careful not to break this seal between the door and the cabin.

I managed to find some tupperware type containers and cut them up to house the speaker. I fixed it on with gaff tape. as long as the top of the speaker is protected and the contacts are waterproofed, everthing is OK. Just be carefull that the mounting depth doesn't foul on the window when it winds down. I attached the shrouds, installed the speakers and then found they where 5mm too deep. after some more cutting, all was good.

Yep, sounds good. The other thing to watch is that the housing isn't airtight 'cause then your speaker isn't going to work nearly as well as usual. The idea is to stop water that runs down between the glass and the outer door skin from running onto your speaker. The housing can therefore be open at the bottom without any problems at all. And make sure the openning is nice and big :-)

Well, if it happened to be airtight AND properly tuned then that could be a different matter
