I have a track that displays BPM in the file detail screen, right after year. If it's displayed, the scroller dosen't scroll far enough to show the bitrate of the file, it stops one line before it would normally show.

I'm assuming this is another difference in release and internal code

BPM as in beats per minute? The file detail screen now provides BPM display???

I'm assuming it's beats per minute. It was around 580, so it seems a bit fast though. Where it got the info is beyond me, I just found it randomly on a song from Mink Car, but no others around it have it showing.

580 bpm, wow. That'd be kinda tough to dance to.

*Automatic* BPM calculation would rule... Very tough to do reliably though.

Toby obviously needs beat detection for his visuals, and was rumored, IIRC, to be thinking about other uses of his algorithms...

Yah but even very rudimentary beat detection will suffice for visuals, because if it interprets a "false beat" it doesn't really throw off visualizations much. But one false beat in actually calculating and displaying a BPM value is much different. I only found one software implementation of BPM calculation (well only one automatic one that didn't involve clicking the space bar to count beats) which had any accuracy at all in displaying BPM correctly, and it usually took 30 seconds for it to figure it out.

Of course no BPM algorithm is going to get 100% of songs due to tempo changes. hard-to-detect beats, etc... But the ones I've seen have been so bad that they're basically worthless.

Awhile back I tried a lil program that did this between 2 songs and mixing the two songs by BPM it was called DJ Mix Pro.
I played with it for awhile but didn't do much w/it. It seemed at the time to work most of the time finding the beat.
...meanwhile
OK they now have a new program called BPM Wizard as well.
