Can we see some pics of the empeg players with the alternative (amber & green) displays. my car has an amber lit dash and i will probably order my empeg in that colour if it blends in :-}

We'll have some more pics up soon: the amber is pretty cool.
Green is much like VT100 terminal screen green: I've attached a pic (I can't find our amber bezel - we don't have the production ones here). The other thing in the pic is the car docking sleeve, which is the bit which you fit permanently in your car.

Mmm. Attachment doesn't appear to be working...

It appears that the "glass" or plastic that covers the display is all that makes it a color. If that's the case, Could we get 2 colors. Green would match my car, but i like blue much better. I can't decide. (maybe we can't switch them)

While it's just the front panel which decides the colour, there are some high voltages on the display board (60v DC) - which is why we don't really want users to play with the fronts. It may happen at some point, though.

Hugo,

So that means that I could send the unit back to get the display changed when i get a new car? Basically, you would just change the plastic in the front? What color is the display without the cover? White?

It's sort of whitish-greenish - standard VFD colour. You *do* need a filter though, as the contrast isn't great standalone.

Yes, a service center could switch fronts for you. If you're out of warranty I'm sure you could manage it yourself, it's only 4 screws...

What about Red? I've got a car with red gauges, and that would be perfect...

Does anyone have any information on how the display looks in sunlight?
I'm having a problem reading the display on my current radio system when its in direct sunlight.

It's not perfect, I have to admit: sunlight is something *very* hard to deal with in display technology. Direct sunlight is basically impossible to combat.

However, the rest of the time the display is just bloody impressive. Especially with 3D cubes bouncing to the music. Oh yes. :)

Again the question for you is:

( Iwould think green, but please hugo, whats your experience ?? )

Thank you: Nils

Oops, one more remark !

Direct sunlight IS beatable.
My current Car System ( Clarion ) is well readable under *extreme* sunlight,
because then the display looks inverted ->
The numbers/letters then appear darker then the background.
But of course the backdrop is -> the display is not readable under medium light conditions, because then background and numbers/letters are the same brightness.
:)
:)

But -> a nice try from clarion ( if this was intended ).

If the display colours are set with the front plate, then it would be easy enough to get platic coloured film (like they use for stage lighting) and attach it to a custom cut piece of plexiglass. My brother used a similar technique in his car to change an Alpine unit to red.

That's a great idea! I think the colored plastic is only attached with 4 screws in the front.

Yes easily!
I have a display in my pontiac that is the amber VF display, I added a red gel to it to give it "redder" tones easily.
All ya gotta do is first void that pesky warranty first!
(I expect my unit to be voided exactly 3 months after it is installed. :-)
