I told the guys at Prestige Audio what I wanted, handed them a role of carpet, and they went away and turned my crappy sketches into a perfect real life version. It was *such* a relief when I saw what they'd done to the boot! It was *exactly* like my picture : )

The undercar wiring was all done by my MG specialist. My panels are all just leather board panels screwed into metal - no poppers or any of that, so to avoid lumpy panels or carpets we ran all the system wiring under the car and sheathed it in exhaust wrap to keep it safe. I did all of the Dynamat!

My tweters are currently up at the corners of the dash on Velcro. The installers recommended putting them down with the mids in the kick panels, but I just tried them on the dash one time just to see and the soundstage just grew so incedibly that I think I'm going to keep them there. It sounds a little sharp on some songs, but I probably just need to lower the tweeter frequency a little to take the edge off. My dash is tiny - like 4 inches from the screen - so you don't get that extra room to play around with angles like you do in modern cars. I think a major advantage though is that the dash is pretty much symetrical on either side (I've heard of SQ pros rebuilding their dashes to be symetrical - not sure why!).

On the motorway it is just as good as at 30mph. The Mac amp provides so much power that I can just turn it up and lose no sound quality. Obviously it sounds better with the roof up, because it's contained, but even with the roof down you can hear every element of the music. The biggest difference happens if the windows are up or down, as I think the sound benefits from bouncing off the windows.

That really sounds like an adventure! Can't ever see my Audi dealer taking any interest (except at £100ph) over any of this stuff - must be a relief to have such a good bunch of people.

Hate to ask for anything, but can we have some more pictures, especially of that interior - it looks just simply fantastic - what sort of fabric/leather is that?

How long did it take to do the whole thing?

One of the guys@work wanted to know what you did for heat exchange with the amps in the boot? Do you have any fans/etc installed? I'd have thought that it'd get really hot in there, especially with the false floor.

I'm going to try and add to my web site day by day, so there will be sections on the non-audio parts too, as well as the audio wiring, etc.

I was also a bit concerned about the amp overheating, but the installers seemed to think it would be fine and so far there has been no problem at all. I've sat in traffic for hours and neither the car nor the audio has overheated. The sides of the false floor are not an airtight fit, so some ventilation comes in there as the floor extends in a square, leaving the side areas free. However, the boot lid seals very tightly and I purposefully left the usual MG badge off so that we didn't have to make any holes in the lid where potential leaks might occur over time. I would've thought that wouldn't allow for much ventilation, but they really seemed to think I'd be ok - it's something I specifically asked about. There is a lot of space around the amp , above and to the side, so perhaps this helps. If we did have problems I would just install a little fan in either side of the false floor. But so far so good....

Perhaps worth monitoring. My friend at work is very experienced with audio and car installs and he was quite concerned.

Perhaps 'cos it's an old car it's a bit creaky anyway

Hmmm... well perhaps it's something to do with the fact that the Mac amp has it's own built in fans?... I dunno. The installers said it would be fine and they are award-winners, not just some back street outfit, so I'm inclined to believe them. I doubt they'd pass up a chance to sell some extra install time to me, either!
