I have a track that I ripped myself long ago, worked fine under all releases and even worked yesterday on 2.0b3, but today, it's got NOISE. I mean loud freakin' NOISE, aka static. I've rebooted, selected and re-selected etc etc and it's still doing it. I haven't had a chance to check it with any tools yet, but I know for a fact it has worked under 2.03b before.

Anyone else have any behavior like this?

yes, something very similar has happened to me, but I don't remember the exact circustances except that the track had worked fine before. It was on random, and I don't even remember the track, so I don't know if it still doing it.

Have you resynced with Emplode?
I went back to v1.03 from 2.0b3 and had same noise on almost all files did the reboot -resync thing and all was back to normal. I know your case is a little different but I read somewhere on here that it had to do with the meta? something being clobbered.

OK here's the thread on that here

It's a known bug which has already been discussed in the Bug Reports section. A prototype normalisation routine was enabled in the release by mistake. The first play through it records (bad) minimum and peak levels for each track, and normalises them on subsequent playbacks (using the bad data).

It'll be fixed in the next release.

Hey Rob, by fixed in the next release do you mean the normalization will be turned off, or do you mean it will work as it was supposed to? You mentioned that this was going to be a feature in the future, do you think it will be in working order for the next release?

Turned off in the next release. We probably need dynamic compression as well as normalisation before release.

Yeah!

Much as I admire Richard's voladj, it is still not 'proper' dynamic compressor ('pumping' artifacts etc), and I think it is necessary, occasiaonally even for classical content (Doug, don't try to rip my head off ). For example, when I drive on highway in my canvas-roof Twingo at 100mph (the fastest it will go, if winds are favourable), I have choice of either listening to some tachno or similar stuff with dynamic range of 2.5dB (some other guys are now going to rip my head off ), keeping my hand on volume control making me a human compressor, missing completely 2/3 of my music or exploding my speakers and/or eardrums. I just might be in the mood to hear all of Dvorak's New World Symphony in the midst of such a din.

I reckon your noise floor is being raised by your noisy ceiling, Bonzi!

You did choose airco and a ragtop, after all
