Any luck on upgrading the logo editor to change the animated boot logos?
We would need how many individual images? 3 right?

Tony said that we'd need a separate bitmap for every frame. The Tux waving animation has what, 10-20 frames?

Doesn't matter how many it takes to me as long as I get the ability to change things.
What I'd really kill for is a way to make my own visuals.

If you mean just selecting the boot logos, there are 2 already built in that you can select from. The RIO - Digital Audio animation looks cool, too. Not quite as cool as Tux, though.
Tony, both Animations are on the player already, right? It's just a matter of selecting which "personality", between Empeg/Rio Car, and this can be done with your logo editor?

I'm talking about custom ones, but 2? available?
Where the hell do you select the other one? Or is it only available on the Rio. I only have a Mark I and I didn't see anywhere that I could change it in Emplode or the player.

Use Tony's logo editor to change player personality. I'm not certain this will work on a Mk.1 but give it a go.
The Rio animation isn't as much fun as Tux though

The Tux animation has 27 frames of which 13 are unique (the animation format uses pointers to frames to avoid duplication). The frames are not currently RLE encoded - we're thinking of using delta compression to reduce the data size.

Yeah, it works on the Mk1. Although I much prefer Tux.

Reduced size is good if we're talking flash. How much flash space is reserved for logos/animations? Which user-definable graphics are stored in flash and which are on the disk?

About a year ago there was discussion of an API to develop custom Visuals but that never really surfaced again. Maybe the ProLux guys can give us some insite on if such an API is in development or what not. I agree that creating new Visuals would be killer.

To clarify, the two they are talking about is the home and car images. You can set your home image to one logo (mine is Ton'y Home) and your car image to something else (Mine is Peace, Luv, Tux) Also, don't forget that you can set the background image for the Anna Vu visual as well. INfo on how to do that can be found here

We looked at a visuals API just after Toby joined, but we couldn't make it fit. It wasn't a sufficiently high priority, so it got dropped.
Recently, Peter and I discussed some options for having another go, and tms13 came up with an alternative suggestion here on the BBS.
However, it's still not a priority, so it's unlikely to happen any time soon.

Actually, unless I am misunderstanding something, they are not talking about the home and car images, but the bootup logos. When the player starts up it shows a bootup logo (static in 1.0x, animated in 2.0) For those that didn't know this, depending on a setting you can change using tony's logo editor (change the check which says "I have a riocar/empeg"), the bootup logo will either be a Rio image or an Empeg/tux image. Immediately after the bootup logo is displayed (same one whether you are in car or at home) then either the home or car (customizable) image will show up.

Speaking of the rio animation, is there any way to change that and replace it with the tux animation??

The status of upgrades to the logo editor are as follows:
I have some snippets of source code and file information (from the empeg team) that gives me enough data so that, with enough work, I could do the following:
- Edit the animated company logos at bootup.
- Edit the Image Pan visual.
- Edit the vectors of the characters and dances in the Flancedoor visual.
My dream is to create a single unified editor to do all of the above. However, I have not had the time to work on this stuff yet.
The task is daunting, because some of these images are in flash, while others are files on the hard disk. I already have flash-writing code (a kludgy call out to command-line upload.exe), but I have no serial communication code for a Zmodem transfer of a file (with the RW and RO handshaking as well).
My friend Tod was keen on porting the whole thing to C++ and doing it all in one fell swoop. I even got permission from the Empeg guys to give him these sources, but then he got struck with a case of RealLife(tm) and now doesn't have the time to work on it, either.
At this point, what I would really like to do is to just post these sources publicly and let the empeg community "have at them". Ideally, all this could be integrated into Jemplode somehow-- wouldn't that be cool?
What do you say, Rob? The source code is very small snippets and I don't think it's giving away anything proprietary.

Not at all. The animated logo is stored in flash along with the kernel. You should be able to find the playback code somewhere in there -- unless it's earlier in the boot sequence -- I don't recall.
Thus, the logos are most likely included in the stock .upgrade file. Don't see why you can't have a Rio logo on the mk1. Except that we may not have bothered including it in a car1 upgrade file, of course.

I actually haven't tried switching the Rio and Empeg logos with each other on the Mark1 player since the 2.0 software release.
In theory, the Mk1 and Mk2 should behave the same. Select the "I have a Rio" or "I have an Empeg" option in the Logo editor, and then send or delete a custom logo, and it should switch the bootup personality accordingly.
There shouldn't be a problem as far as I know.
