As I impatiently await the arival of this ISO adapter so I can connect my empeg in the car I'm wondering to myself. The manual said that some cars have this standard adapter and will just simply be able to "Plug and Play" sort of speak. Now my question is which cars have this as I'll be going to a huge junk yard here in Virginia later this week and I'm sure if I can find one simply cut it off and use it, taking this will work and don't see why not. So if anyone knows what cars have this iso connector as their standard I could keep an eye out while there.
Yes I'm a little anxious to get it installed, even ran all around town to all the audio places with my sled in hand seeing if any had an adapter for it and none knew WTF it was or why I wouldn't just cut the adapter off.

I went through the same thing. Car Toys said "Why don't you just snip the wires??" Some shops had the larger male plug, but none had the necessary female (why would they, after all?). In the end I snipped one out of a late 80s jetta at a VW junkyard -- they were the plug into the back of the OEM (Blaupunkt?) head unit. I had to cut the little plastic key off it, but it worked.
Not sure, but installer.com may have both male/female. After finding mine, I think I remember Rob also saying that they could be had through Rio Car Support.
Good luck!

You don't need to get it off of a junk car. Just buy an adapter (they are not expensive) from any stereo shop or from Crutchfield. Check the installation FAQ at riocar.org for an illustration of how the adapters work. ___________

Yea I've e-mail support and suposivly one is on it's way. Although after they said that I e-mail back asking if there was an estimated time on when it might arrived and to verify that one was indeed send out and heard no replies back. I looked all threw crutchfield.com and found nothing. Just thought this would work since I'm going there thursday anyways and just get on now instead of having to wait a week or 2 instead of one being ordered/shipped to me.
Just anxious to get it installed, supose I should be patient and see if I get one in the mail.

Tony: "Just buy an adapter (they are not expensive) from any stereo shop or from Crutchfield."
Tony, WRT the ISO adapter, what you can buy from Crutchfield (if you can tell Crutchfield a car model that applies*) and/or other stereo shops is a male adapter that is suitable for adapting an OEM head unit to a factory ISO harness connector as in the VW. They do not sell a female adapter as is needed to plug into the sled harness (if it arrives, as mine did, without the female plug). Like I say, it looks like installer.com *may* have the female ISO in their listing. I just happened to score at the junkyard first.
Jim
* I really like good old overpriced Crutchfield and have bought 80% of my car stereo stuff from them. You pay a premium, true, but get excellent service and adapter freebies. Be that as it may, when I called them (twice) to try to obtain a female ISO adapter, the customer service reps had no clue what I was talking about. Only after a prolonged discussion about "we got one that will connect to a VW" was it clear that they didn't offer a female. No big surprise. Their gig is to sell bits that adapt the Pioneers, Kenwoods, Sonys etc they sell *into* a VW, Audi, BMW.

Thats exactly my point. Any car stereo place I go to and ask for an adapter the first thing they ask is what car is this for. I then try to explain is makes no difference on the car as I need an adapter for this specific iso connection. Then they go off and mention they do not sell that style conector that does the reverse of what they normaly install. So besides waiting to see if support did indead send one out the only things I can think of would to get lucky at the junk yard or to just simply cut the current iso adapter off.

I had the same problem in my car.
I read my car's manual.
I found the electrical schema for the ISO connector (for speakers and so on ..)
The difference is for me the pin 5 that is used for the remote amp (act as a switch to enable or disable amplifier)
I am absolutely not a specialist but after asking many questions on the BBS, i was said some car have a manufacturely built-in amp installed.
Never seen ?
I bought 2 iso connector whith free wire to one side
1 to cojnnect to empeg docking sled empeg is female so the connector must be male
and a 2nd to connect to my car (male, i think for most (all ?) of cars ISO is male)
so the connector is a female.
then you connect male and female together and you will have a connector .
So, even if you dont have an amp at this time you can even do your connector but you will have to let free the remote amp wire and use it later if you dont have an amp.
I have a problem on my website but i'll try to post a picture of it later.

Nosferatu,
I think what Cyberglitch and I experienced is specific to the US where ISO connectors (at least the males) are harder to find in the aftermarket. I actually could buy a male from a VW dealer, but it was part of a 3-connector radio install kit and cost $30. The dealer had a junkyard next door, and that was all of $5.
I'm going to Paris at the end of November, though, so if he's *still* looking, I can get him one!

The connector is hard to find in the US.
As he is going to Paris later this year he could buy one for him while he's over here in Europe (where the connector is more available).
If anyone is in need of the connector and can't find one (semi)locally, let me know. I have a male/female set left over from that $30 amplified antenna adapter kit (I have VW). Not all 8 positions are populated (see this post) so you'd have to find those special little crimp contacts that fit in the connector for the rest of the positions...
