I don't currently have my Empeg installed in my car, but it is plumbed into my home stereo.

For some reason it decides to turn itself on at random moments. This morning it turned on at 2.30am and I wasn't even in !! I can tell how long its been playing from the playlist.

Anyone any ideas ?

Do you have fluorescent lighting of any description? I had to take the energy-saving lightbulbs out of the lounge when they kept turning on my DVD player, locking the TV completely and rewinding video tapes!

Sounds strange, but they give me no end of grief.

Nicholas.

No, I don't have energy saving bulbs and the lights weren't on. The curtains were drawn so it didn't come in from the street. It's not the only time its happened.

I wonder if it could be my alarm sensors ? Anyone know how they work ?

Shouldn't be, alarm sensors are passive IR.

Very strange - a valid IR code shouldn't be that easy to generate (seeing as it's 38kHz modulated IR that has to match a multi-byte pattern which has built-in error checking)

For starters you could put the unit in pause mode with the 'off' visual (is it a visual when the display is blanked?).
I do this by routine when I let the empeg sit in the car. I had it turn on once by itself and don't know what caused it, so if it decides to do this again I'm certain it won't start playing loud music and doesn't show it's fancy face (uhm, display) to attract nasty people. Don't worry, I only let the empeg sit in the car if I'm back in 15 minutes or less. Most of the time this happens when I stop at home for a quick meal with the car parked under the car port next to a big window.

I'm off at a convention this weekend, so I only have intermittent 'net access.

My guess is it's the infrared alarm sensor. I know it should be passive, but that's the only thing I can think of. Some kind of infrared signal. Either that or it's getting something on the serial port...
