How hard would it be to rewrite the empeg's /dev/display kernel driver to use the Linux framebuffer (/dev/fb) interface?

I've been looking into this a bit but haven't yet come to any conclusion.

This would be nice to have to make framebuffer apps port more easily.

We use standard linux fb (very minor tweaks only - like backlight stuff) on other projects we're working on. Moving to fb-style support is on the wishlist, though it most likely won't happen until we move to linux2.4 - post v1.1 release.

Hmm, Hugo just leaked a feature from their upcomming mystery product. It will have a backlight

/me can't wait for an empeg portable player :-)

It's hardly a leak. See here.

I saw that afterwords, but figured he was talking about the product that he was working on now, and not the existing and completed RioReciever. (Since Hugo managed to leak enough at the meet to indicate something is sitting on his workbench in prototype form :-)

Oh, that. Yeah, that's got a backlight, too.

*shrug* Tuner modules end up in the back of the dashboard. Back...light. How simple do you want it?
