So I uploaded the new Rob Zombie album to the player. I like it. I'm listening to "Iron Head", the track with him and Ozzy. It's real good. Then I go on and listen to some others.
Later I want to play that track for a friend. I go to track 5 (Iron Head), but something happens. It starts off the same, then all of a sudden this static comes in and that's all you could hear for the rest of the song. It was just strange. I couldn't get the darn song to play right. Even more perplexing to me was the following facts:
-none of the other songs did this
-it did it the same way each time I played it
-that I had listened to the song once before!
I find it odd that a song was changed while on the player. Is there any explanation for this?
*edit*
I guess I should add that I already re-uploaded the song to the player, and now it works every time.

It's the normalization bug in 2.0b3. I have several songs that did exactly what you described, some worse than others.

If you were running 2.0b3, this might be the known bug regarding the unfinished normalization code (which will be fixed in the next release).
Was the static pure random noise, or was it playing the song in a very distorted way? If the latter, it's probably the known bug.
Also, by any chance did you mark that track by pressing the 4 or Cancel keys on it? One report said that the bug happened after he marked the track.

No, I hadn't marked it. I also don't think I could hear anything but static on it, only static.
Sorry, I knew this must have been brought up already, just hadn't seen it.
Oh, and yeah, I'm running the beta.

Actually, since you heard pure static, not just a distorted version of the song, this is a new report. I don't think it's the same bug.

I had one that got so distorted so quickly that it was indistinguishable from pure static. I thought that was the usual manifestation until I got one that did it more gradually, sounding like nasty clipping for a few seconds before turning to mush. I guess it depends on the attack rate of the tune, assuming that the normalisation is a simple scaling.
Awaiting another beta,...

I too have seen the "static played" issue a couple of times, I had assumed it was just the normalization issue. The tracks were not marked.

I just got the same thing on a track that I uploaded yesterday. It played fine last night, but it started just a second ago and then went in to static.. It's not pure static, but I can't see that it in anyway resembles the song it's supposed to be. :)
FWIW, The file is not marked.

I've seen the same problem on several tracks. They were not marked.

I reported getting pure static/white noise a while back. I nuked the settings on the player (lost all my tuner presets and eq settings ) but it cured the track, so I assumed it must have been an ultra-extreme example of the normalisation problem...
