I was commenting on the RioCar's [lack of] publicity. I've pretty-much came to the conclusion that Empeg was bought by SB to aquire the Empeg team. Not the Empeg car player.

This is OK though. It allowd me to get a backup empeg for $699.

Or the bit about some audiophiles spending $300 to $350 on a turntable! Haha. First, someone running a turntable is an antiquarian or someone trying to be a pretentious audiophile. And these audiophiles can spend more than $350 on a phono cartridge, let alone the turn table! Some people have more into a turn table than other have into their cars.

$1500 for a component of this level is well within upper consumer audio. What are these people expecting? The price of some crappy $300 boom box?

No, this component isn't targeted at a 17 year old dipsh*t working at 7-11. Hopefully the word will get out to the markets that will appreciate this device. I'm also sure a co-branded or re-branded OEM contract would do wonders for the product (depending on the brand of course - Harmon would be better than Jutan, Krell would necessitate the enclosure be made of 1" billet aluminum and cost $5000, etc..)

I agree with you about everything else, but why are you ragging on turntables? For some music (specifically not general rock and pop), vinyl is definitely the way it should be heard. At least until digital recordings get higher sample rates.

About the turntable comment... I have a turntable and use it weekly. If I really like a CD and it happens to be on vinyl, I usually buy both. There is just something about vinyl that appeals to me. My main turntable is an '80s Technics with automatic linear tracking. Nothing expensive.

The problem with this particular dilemma (is 'analog sound' from turntable inherently better than 'digital sound' from a 16b/sample CD at 44.1k samples/s) cannot be resolved by objective double-blind listening tests. It will always be easy to tell vinyl by lower dynamic range and much higher noise floor.

(Note to ardent vinyl proponents: note smileys etc)

Agreed! In the dance genre, vinyl is still the way to go! There even are lots of tracks that don't even make it to CD! And when it comes to doing some serious DJ mixing, there is still no substitute for the Technics SL-1200MK2!
