Hey, this may be a newbie question, but what's the deal with stuff not synching right? I am synching over a network, based on a 10/100 switch. Fairly often songs just don't synch. It will do some of the song, then emplode just sits there for a while, then it comes up with an error message saying it couldn't synch because of an operation that was not allowed or something. Unfortunately, the Empeg sits there trying to synch still - the synch logo is animated. At which point I have to pull the plug. It seems to be certain songs. Anyone able to help me?

What version of the software? If you don't know, check in the About window.

Version 1.02a.

I think it may be related to the size of the file, because all the ones that dont work are over 8 megish.

I set my network card on the PC I was using to forced 10meg half duplex, and it helped fractionaly, but the switch should take care of all that anyhow.

I also tried the version 2 something version of emplode, but it just gave an annoying "successful" messge when I tried connecting, and didnt actually connect.

The error I keep getting also says something about failing at "stage 5". Only just noticed it.

Version 1.02a.

Lost in the fog of history to most people here I fear...

Try upgrading to 1.03 which is the latest "stable" release - might resolve it... I don't remember what was fixed in the 1.03 version though (there's that fog again...)

I also tried the version 2 something version of emplode

Beware - you need to first install the corresponding version of emplode, then upgrade the player to the same version. emplode and player of differing versions don't play well together...

And if you want to live on the bleeding edge - then get 2.0b7

Um, I tried using USB, and it works fine. It's just annoying the whole networking thing isnt. Hmm.

1.02 was a pretty old release and there have been many bug fixes since then. Definitely grab 1.03 which should be rock stable on either USB or Ethernet. You can even walk on the wild side and give 2.0b7 a try if you like. Note that you need to upgrade both Emplode and the player software to the same version (two separate downloads), and do the upgrades in the order of Emplode then Player. (More upgrade details are in the FAQ.)

If 1.03 isn't rock stable, then it might be the 10/100 switch. The player's ethernet port is 10-only, and some people have reported that their 10/100 devices need to be forced down to 10 in order for everything to work perfectly. (More ethernet details are in the FAQ.)

I upgraded to 1.03 with minor success. I also forced everything back to 10 meg fairly early on in the piece, again without fixing the situation.

USB seems to work though.

Define "Minor Success"?

If you're still having problems with both Emplode 1.03 and Player 1.03, please post details and let's discuss them here.

I would connect the Empeg to your computer directly for testing. I've had two 10/100 switches (D-Link and Linksys) at my office that would cause data loss. Currently we are using a 16 port 10 Mbit hub and there havn't been problems since.

I don't think that the problem is switch vs. hub since I use a clearance-bin CompUSA 10/100 switch at my house and it works like a charm. Rather, I think there are many cheap switches out there that are poorly designed.

Also, if you are using a home-made cable I would suggest using PVC if it's not going to create a fire hazard. I find that the crimp holds to the PVC cables a lot better than plenum because of the (usually) thicker jacket.

Um, it just didn't work. The sync would freeze and then I'd have to pull the plug. IT did it on a 10 megabit hub, too, so it's not my network. The cables were all tested and proven good.

IT just really doesn't seem to like LANs. I will try it agian on another totally different LAN and see what happens. I'll post the results when I have them :)

Good idea. If you can use a different PC on which to run Emplode, that would be the best test.

Also check the pins on the player's ethernet jack and see if they've been damaged or bent.

Hi,

It couldn't be a Jack or pin problem, because it workd fine most of the time. Physical problems would tend too mean it either would or wouldnt work.

Or would it?

Current theory is that it just doesnt like some aspect of my network. Several others have reported to me that they have had bizarre behaviour with certain items - particularly hubs/switches. I will post an update as soon as I have tried it though :)

I used it on a bridged network with thousands of machines on it, before we went routed...worked just fine.
