I've finally put up pictures of my installation in the riocar.org photo gallery. They can be found here.

This includes photos of the "Magic Marker Mod", as well as another trick I did with black plastic so you can't see the gap between the sled and the car. You can also see my rather nifty method for mounting my Mark 1 to my home stereo rack.

Nice. I haven't actually seen the unit in sunlight. Are the electronics really that visible?

I'm waiting on Crutchfield to deliver my new amp, speakers, and related wiring so I can install my unit in a 1998 Jetta GL. I'm hoping I can manage to do the wiring appropriately; I've never done anything except replace a head unit before.
I will be building a simple amp rack for the trunk; I need to go down tomorrow and make some preliminary measurements so I can build an appropriate rack (I'm really considering just a simple "stealth" mount that would be a single board fit to a cavity large enough to contain the amp. But I'm still trying to figure out how I'd attach it to the car, as it'd sit vertically).

I also need to call the dealer and ask about the radio assembly panel; I really like that idea and would like to do it myself. I don't know if they're available for an A3 Jetta though.

Nice work! I'll post pictures of mine once I get everything installed.

I realize it's kinda late (3am EST) and my eyes are tired, but the pictures aren't coming up.

You are correct. The entire photo gallery appears to be hosed at this time. I wonder if Drakino knows about it.

Okay, Drakino took care of it. Should be able to see the pics now.

I've added two new photos to my install gallery if anyone is interested. They are close-up pictures of the "Magic Marker Mod" with the morning sunlight shining directly onto the face of the player. They can be found here.

I think my favorite mod is the "Black Notebook Mod". Before I read this, I had used the Black Marker Mod in place of the Black Notebook Mod, applying black marker to the front of the sled ... it wasn't great, but it didn't attract the attention of the eye to a silver behind black metal.

I think I'll go back and use the notebook fix, looked very sharp.

Heh, thanks. Gotta make sure not to mix up your mods.
