Well, I was enjoying my whole lunch break in the car today with my newly installed empeg untill all of a sudden the infared remote stopped working. Not any one of the buttons work. I don't remember if I was doing anything special at the time, I think I was just still getting to know what all the buttons do and such. I've done all the basic things like take out and check the battery and also smacked the remote a few times, and it still doesn't work. I've been pointing it like 1" away all the way around the deck.

Is it possible I could of pressed a sequence of buttons to disable the remote? I'll try buying a new battery, but it's not even a week old. thanks for any help.

If the front-panel buttons do not respond, either, and you're running 2.0 beta 7, it's a known bug. Otherwise, see this FAQ entry

In fact, I think I will add this note about 2.0b7 to that FAQ entry.

This has happened to me three times, each requiring a new remote.

A guy at work had a Mk2 and just ordered two remotes; I just got my empeg last week. My remote came with a dead battery, so he let me borrow the battery out of his extra remote. Thing is, his primary remote ran out of juice after about two days. He warned me about this yesterday and then mine just died last night. For some reason these remotes came from the factory very drained of power. We had three remotes between us and they are all dead. I'm on my way to buy new batteries right now. . .

Are you sure it's not the battery terminals making a poor connection?

My remote (got it on Dec-11) died within a few days.. I just went to the local auto store and got a new battery. They generally stock that model since it's used a lot in keyless entry remotes. Works great now.

Thanks for your replies. I guess it was the battery. Picked up a new one and it worked. I'm guessing the shelf life is poor, hopefully these will last longer.

I just had mine stop working yesterday. It was definitely bad contacts because I borrowed my friend's remote, put my battery in it, and his worked fine. I fiddled with mine for about 10 minutes, then it decided to start working again.

I noticed that my friends' closes a lot better than mine, so probably makes a better connection with the contacts. Do you guys know any way we can fix this? I tried seeing if you could bend the contacts, but they're springy.
