I have just obtained a 60gb riocar.. at the great fire sale prices. From what i have been able find the am/fm tuner module may cost me more then the player its self assuming I can find one. So my question (request) is will someone sacrifice their module to the reverse engineering gods? If SonicBlue wont produce any more modules whats stoping us from. Instead of reversing the whole thing it should be trival task to rebuild the unit they are selling assuming its from off the shelf parts.. So my request is can we get a full disection with photos, part numbers.. and as much info as possible. If the really cool guys over at empeg ^H^H^H^H^H SonicBlue could provide the specs without violating an NDA that would be cool as well. Really I think unless we can build the tuners modules our self alot of us are going to end up learning to do without OR driving around with a few extra head units.

Rob (from empeg) is currently looking into a user funded run of tuners from the same place that did the first batch. This will probably be the easiest route. Just stay tuned, I'm sure more details will follow as things are discussed and worked out.

You may not have to worry about reverse-engineering the module. There are discussions underway with some people who are considering making a short-run production of them to make a small profit. If they do, they will be doing so with the blessing and assistance of the empeg team. Dig around on the BBS and see if you can find the thread. There may soon be a pre-order list for those who want tuners.

This has been gone over in detail before, it wouldn't really help, because at the core of the tuner is a specialist tuner module that is not an off the shelf part.
