Just a few queries about the BBS software.

1) On some of the other (UBB based) boards or I use, there is an option which displays new posts since my last visit. There is a similar feature in the 24h, 48h and 7 days posts. Is it possible to only show new messages for each user?

2) It also shows every post including all replies since I have been on. Others only show the most recent post and thus the list is much shorter and easier to pick out threads I want to read. So basically it shows threads with new messages rather than new messages.

3) And finally when look at these lists I always get threaded mode rather than flat mode even though I have selected flat mode in my settings. I get flat mode when viewing normal messages but when using the recent messages feature I alwasy get them threaded.

Any know how to get around these things? I have tried messing with most of the settings in my profile but I can't seem to get what I want. Perhaps it's just not possible with this version?

Thanks guys,
Christian

I do not use the "last 24 hours" feature. I use pure flat mode and simply click on the threads that show "new".

When you click on one of the threads that shows "new", and you're in flat mode, it scrolls you immediately to the first new post in the thread.

Speaking of which, does anyone hate the way that you have to finish reading the new posts in a forum before you close your browser once you've opened it, otherwise it forgets what you haven't read? Wouldn't it make more sense for it to note that you've read a post when you've actually gotten to the page its posted on instead of the index?

Yes, I agree that this is an irritating feature of the BBS and I would like to see it changed.

Note that it doesn't actually forget anything, it just assumes that if you enter the forum index from a top-level forum link after not having come up from a thread, then you want all the old posts from before your last visit marked as unread. It's kind of complicated how it works under the hood, and I wish it could be changed or made an option.

Yes, it's irritating. It prevents me splitting reading sessions across sittings.

YES!!!

I thought it's just my imagination, nobody else was complaining.... I am sick of guessing from dates and times which threads might contain new posts (as I rerely have time to finish them in one gulp).

BTW, Tony's hints for speed reading are excellent.
