Went through the faq and also searched old messages and I haven't seen this issue yet...

Just got a new empeg remote to replace my Kenwood remote. It's brand new, with a brand new battery, etc.

Seems that it won't work properly in the car. Works fine at home though...

Do I need to "disable Kenwood remote control" in the configuration options? If so, why do they both work at home and only the Kenwood in the car?

By "new" battery I'm assuming it came with the remote... So.... Swap the batteries and test again.

Well... the remote works fine at home but not in the car. Can't be a battery issue...

Well, it could be a battery problem.

There is almost certainly more IR radiation in a car environment than in the average home.

Therefore you may find with a weak/on its way out battery that the extra IR present in your car swamps the IR signal from the remote stopping it working like it does at home.

Replace the existing battery with a new one and see if that fixes the problem in your car. If not then we know its not the battery and you can begin to look at other things.

However ion that case a strong IR source in your car would be likely problem then, but I have no idea from where it would be coming.

Motion sensor for the car alarm?

Sun shining directly onto the face of the player?

Little off topic, but I noticed that my remote was not working in the car (it stays in the car, so I didn't test at home or work). Ends up the bottom button was sticking "in" on the Rio and not letting the remote work. Every once in a while, my Rio decides to browse through the menus too. Or even change the info mode...

Errr... John, this is going to sound a bit kinky - have you tried using the remote from the back seat? Or outside the car?
