Alrighty. I finally decided to get some rear fills for my install to replace the stock 6x9's in my Civic... and i need some advice because as it stands, i'm 50/50.
Up front i have a set of MB Quart PSC 216 Components, and 2 10" JL subs in the trunk. The front and rears are driven by a 425 Watt MTX amp, the sub by a 250 Watt MTX. Now i need some good 6x9's...
SO... What do you guys think...
MB Quart DISCUS DTC 169
OR
Infinity Kappa 692.3i's

I've got the Infinity Kappa 692.3i's in the rear on my car, and they rock. Nice clear highs, smooth midrange, and if you need it, they can drop down pretty low...I don't have a sub in my car(yet), and with these speakers, it feels like I've got a sub hiding somewhere

I'll have to agree with you on the bass in the Infinity speakers. I have the reference series and you'd swear there was a sub in my car. I suppose I'll eventually go get a sub, but with these speakers, I'm in no hurry.

Bass will be taken care of... so that's not as important. I plan on upgrading the subs to some 10w3's as the ones in the trunk are pretty old. That means a new amp to.... sheesh. it never ends =]

I love my MB Quartz. Its not the same model, but overall, the quality just rocks. I never heard the Kappas, so I can't give my input on them.
The fact that Rockford Fosgate bought MB might factor in to your decision...

You have to go to an audio shop and listen to them. Only you can decide which ones sound best.

It's been my experience that Infinity speakers have really great highs, but the midrange and lows aren't as good as other brands. Don't get me wrong: they do sound, but there is better. As for the Quarts... I've never heard a pair so I can't comment.

...which will tell you nothing useful.
Unless you can hear the speakers installed in your car, using your amps, what you hear in the store's listening room won't be very useful. Everything will be different.
You'd be better off finding someone with a similarly shaped car who has the speakers installed, and listening to them there.

I have a set of Kappa Perfect 6.1 seperates as my only speakers (besides sub) and they rock. I only paid $75.00 (my brother works for them) for the $500.00 set so I am very happy.

Alrighty, the MB Quarts are on the way. I decided just to match the fronts, seeing as how there's no other way for me to really get a feel for both sets unless they were installed... so i had to go on something. =] Thanks for the opinions guys!
Now... on to the subs...
does anyone out there have one of those fitted tire well sub enclosures? Thoughts?

Alrighty. I installed the MB Quart DTC 169's today... and wowzers. They make a HUGE difference from the stock speakers i had in there... not surprisingly i guess. Now i've got a nice full sound stage that just floats.... it's SWEEEEET.
Another topic... but i'll spare starting a new thread...
Does anyone have any idea how long subs usually last? Do they generally "wear out" at all or should they last forever? I'm just wondering if i should replace my 5 year old JL's or not... they sound sorta "dead" to me, though they certainly aren't blown, and i've taken good care of them.

Man, how can you resist Calvin's great suggestion. Perhaps now we should take this offline instead of clogging up the boards. Calvin or Loren, PM me and we will set something up. Hopefully by then mine will be installed too.

I think we can have an Unofficial meet, and if it turns into a large gathering, so be it.
So who is up for a juicy rib eye covering most of the dinner plate washed down with a cold draft of black and tan? yum.

Actually... i just remembered.... i'm probably going to be down there this weekend because my father will be in town at some convention... so we could do a quick meet. Can't say i'm up for the rib eye, but as long as they have something non-cowish, i'm down.

Blackened Fish. Sounds good. Anybody else interested in dropping by San Jose for a mini meet?

And Zandr ("n6mod"), too. As long as it's not this Saturday. Got plans with the family.
The first of next month, I'm in the area for Consonace anyway (the Woodside meet last year coincided with Consonance, too) for the whole weekend. Probably too far in the future to plan for just an informal get-together I guess...

Ah, well, do your thing anyway, don't mind me. I'll catch up with everyone at the next official meet this year (whenever that ends up being).
