I installed the Beta7 developer upgrade and software beforehand, and everything works fine (haven't tried it in a car yet though). I downloaded the newest pre-built kernel, v151.hijack.v200b8.mk2.zImage, and used LogoEdit.exe to send it successfully to the player. Now the player stays in standby mode no matter what I do, through multiple power cycles. Only reupgrading it using the SonicBlue software brings it back to life. I'm missing something here...what is it?

maybe a corrupt download. Mark has probably gone through 3 versions since your post, so give it another try.

As Sean says, could be a corrupted download. Try running md5sum on the zimage file.

My copy of v151, which has been successfully installed, returns the following from md5sum: \3bca07933c8a23ab5dee7cb68a7563b9 (not sure if the \ is supposed to be part of the sum or not, but if the rest matches you're OK)

Do you have any odd stuff in config.ini?

Eureka! I grabbed md5sum and ran it on the file I had downloaded earlier:

md5sum -b v151.hijack.v200b8.mk2.zImage
a84823f817058ab8994d701616290099 *v151.hijack.v200b8.mk2.zImage

Then I used Intellitamper (www.intellitamper.com) to download the 1.51 kernel directly from the Hijack site:

md5sum -b v151.hijack.v200b8.mk2.zImage
3bca07933c8a23ab5dee7cb68a7563b9 *v151.hijack.v200b8.mk2.zImage

I uploaded it with LogoEdit, and it works great. Thanks for the tip.
One last thing...are there any detailed instructions for using the Hijack kernel? I can find a feature list on the home page, but with so many addons, it seems strange that I can't find a readme or docs anywhere. Does everyone just play around with it until they know how to use all its features?

Sort of... Most of the stuff available through the menus are pretty self-explanatory. What I haven't played with is the IR-translations or tweaking the VolAdjust settings(no need). Just noted that there are links to explanations for those two...
What commands that are available for ftp is listed if you send a 'HELP' and/or 'SITE HELP' command...

HiJack has been under very rapid development, features has come and gone (SITE EXEC for instance) or changed behaviour slightly - documentation hasn't really been able to keep up. I think there was someone who volontered to start on a tutorial (Mark was asking for him recently - or was it a general cry for a tutorial writer?) but it's not here yet.

If anything has you stumped and you can't find it on Marks site or in the FAQ, don't hesitate to ask here - generally you'll have an answer in no time...

Ironically, after posting my last message, I played around with it and figured everything out except ir translation, hehe. I even grabbed some tracks off of it with the FTP server. Thanks for the tips.
