Hi all,

My first post, but definitely not my last.

I have a question for anyone in the know.
I'm interested in the above product (I know its been discontinued now) but it looks the best specially when I compare it to the msation version (in boot mount). But my question is, is it a seperate or do I need a seperate car stereo already installed?

Also, what about amps, do I need an external amp to power the rio?

thanks in advance,

Raas

Try reading the FAQ first. It will probably answer all of your questions. If you still have some afterward, please come back and ask.

You need some type of amplification to the speakers. That can come from external power amplifiers (because the Rio can be used as a preamp) or it can be another head unit (with line-level AUX inputs). The third method is to have both another head unit and amplifiers. That's as basic as the information gets.

Thanks for the info.

I like in the UK and would only use it in the UK, does this make problems?

So assuming I remove my present headunit and replace it with the rio, does it have sufficient outs for a sub and at least 4 speakers?

also, I'd like the radio tuner (I believe this plugs in the back of the headunit) so would this complicate issues?

Thanks for any advice.

With the empeg-only solution you'll need to get some power amplifiers. Your amp can have any number of channels depending on how you want to drive your speakers. You just have to make sure that the amp can deliver enough power to the speakers to provide you with the volume you want.

There are 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 channel amps. You can use any of them to drive any combination of your speakers. The empeg itself has 2 pairs of outputs with a fade and balance control.

The empeg tuner will not complicate the line-level connections to an amplifier. Hooking up the empeg in this case is a little more complicated than a regular head unit, but not much. The empeg alone is pretty much like hooking up any other head unit. For specifics, see the FAQ as Tony suggested.

The only complication you'll have with an empeg in the UK is that you'll have to pay a little more shipping to get it than someone in the USA (the empeg international store, based in the UK, is sold out of empegs). Check the forsale forum for sources of units. Jeremy of carplayer.com is selling new ones at prices currently below those on eBay.

No problem, it was designed by UK residents and they use their players in the UK, so it works quite well in the UK.

Every single other question you have asked is answered in the FAQ, so please check there for details.

Hell, it works better in the Uk. They put the stupid volume knob on the wrong side. Damn backwards limeys.

I'm in the States and I like the vol knob where it's at. More at it, I like the 4 buttons where they're at. Much easier to access while driving. It's definitely on the "other" side but I like it there.

Haha, well that's one way of looking at it I guess.

I just got the Empeg recently, and I keep reaching for the volume on the wrong side compared to my old CD player. I know I will get used to it eventually, but at the moment it still feels very strange.

Ummmmm....w/Hijacks Knob Rotate/Button Press redifinition menu you can make the left buttons do what the right knob does and the right knob do what the left buttons did. So the Vol could be on the left effectively reversing the player.
