Are Empeg/Rio still doing hard drive upgrades in the UK?
I have a 20GB MKII model and want more

I asked last week and was told that due to the reduction in price of the players they were no longer offering a upgrade service. Apparently it's cheaper to just buy another player! Sadly that's not an easy option for someone outside the range of the SB store who only wants one unit and doesn't want to screw their warranty.

I assume they're winding down to just provide after sales service and repair. On the hand, I could be wrong!

Currently David is directing upgrade enquirers to the FAQ on how to upgrade the player yourself.

After reading that, if you really don't want to perform the upgrade yourself (or don't want to invalidate your warranty and can't wait to upgrade) then we may be able to help - but the selection of disks could be limited and I'm not sure how attractive the pricing will be.

What sort of capacities and prices are we talking about then?

Should I re-word the FAQ, then? Any suggestions on what it should say?

Or you could see if there are any other empegers local to you who would be willing to do the upgrade for ya.

Perhaps the official position on honoring waranty on items obviously not related to disk upgrade (e.g. supercap or something on display board - apart from the tube with its nipple broken off )?

I was charging 200UKP for a 20GB drive - that is the last official word I got on pricing well over six months ago - I'll have to look into what I can offer now, but it would probably be at least 150UKP to cover labour. Shipping from the US is 75UKP both ways.

Well I just sent my 2 new empegs to have the hard drives switched to make my 10Gb and 60Gb players 40Gb and 30Gb. I'm sure I could have done the work myself but I didn't want to void the warranty on brand new players and the 10Gb was getting full pretty quickly.

Maybe when they are older and I still want more space I'll do the work myself.
