Hello,

I just bought an Empeg, as did a ton of us! I have a 97 Sebring with Infinity system built in. I want to use the factory stereo, and using a separate head unit is not an option. Can anyone please give me some advice, and part numbers of things I will need to pull this off. Also if you have any advice, as to if this is even worth it or not (using factory Infinity system that is) I would like to hear it. Thanks.

An example of installing the player into a car with an Infinity amplifier is here. Note that the infinity amplifer must drive all of the speakers in the car for this method to work (in this case it did).

Oh, and congratulations on your new toy! Have a skim through the FAQ at www.riocar.org before you go much longer.

Ahh, that makes perfect sense then. Does anyone know about the sound quality when using the OEM1 and the Infinity system?? Just curious before I do it. Thanks again.

I've got a Mitsubishi Montero (with the factory Infinity Stereo). I know the problem your having. This is what I found.

You'll find that most people will tell you have two options.

1. Connect your empeg to the infinity using an FM modulator. You'll lose some sound quality, as the empeg will be playing through your radio.
2. Yank out your entire system (including speakers) and replace everything with an aftermarket amp that has RCA inputs. Or, a new headunit that that has AUX inputs or outputs.

A handfull of other people have approached this somewhat differently. One of the users on this board has a Dodge Durango (that has/had the Infinity system). He used something called a PAC-OEM to attach his empeg to the existing infinity amp, and ditched the head unit.

I'm seeking to just add the empeg to my system. I like listening to the radio, or playing a childs cassette for my kids, or even listening to a cd or two.

I ordered two pieces of equipment so far (neither has arrived yet). The first, is something called a MITAH. Its typically used to allow you to attach an aftermarket head unit to a factory amp. This one is specially made for the Montero/Infinity system. You'll find that the Infinity head unit is connected to the factory amp with a 6-pin din cable. Most head units have RCA plugs.

The MITAH will allow you connect to something called an RCA switcher. This little device lets you connect TWO head units (the Infinity and the empeg) to a single amp.

Past this I have two challenges left. The first is to cobble together a cable to connect the Infinity to the switcher and somekind of "Y" type wiring harness to connect both units to the car's 12v constant, and other wires.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

In the case of Tod's car, it sounded great, we're very happy with it. And that's with the player's EQ set completely flat.

I tried that in my 2000 Dakota, which I will assume is something like the Durango. It did sound "great", but it wasn't very loud at all. If you are looking for a "LOUD" system, you may want to go with a separate amp. Chrysler products don't have the best S/N ratio. Factory speakers are a bit on the junky side from Chrysler too, I replaced all of mine... By the way, I had a 1997 Avenger and thought it was an AWESOME car. I bet you love your sebring, is it a convertable???

No, not a convertible, but it is the LXi model with the full leather interior, and wood grain dash kit. I do love it, can't wait to get the empeg in it!!

There is a guy on here that sells real wood face plates. I'm sure he could make one to match your Sebring. They are like a hundred bucks or so, well worth the investment for such a great player...
