I have been messing around with emRAWerter (thanks wire!) and was wondering if it is possible to upload to the empeg with FTP when Hijack is installed? Right now I am just logging in as anonymous but is it possible to log in so you can write via ftp?

Thanks

Hey Richard,

Make sure you have the development firmware installed, and you can use the HiJack kernal to FTP and change stuff around. You will have to get the drive in RW mode first.

Getting the drive in RW mode is my problem. I am able to log in, browse and download. How do you get the drive in RW mode?

The way I do it is, connect via serial first, get the bash prompt by pressing "q" then I type "cd /bin" then "rw"

now I can make changes to the files via ftp/ethernet. good luck.

Via FTP, you need to send the FTP control connection the text ``site rw''. Most FTP clients interpret what you type, so you may need to figure out how to get it to send what you want verbatim. Under most command-line clients, this is accomplished by prepending the word ``quote''. So ``quote site rw''. Remember to ``site ro'' once you're done writing.

Jesus, people, you hand the guy a loaded gun, but don't tell him how to put the safety on.

Always always always put the drive back into read-only mode when you are done writing to it. Use the ro command to do this. Important!!!!

And since he's probably already booted the player with the drives read-write, he's now going to need this FAQ entry.

Come on, people, take some responsibility...

Hi Tony,

Don't bring Jesus into the thread. We just got rid of Osama.

I can HIGHLY recommend SmartFTP from www.smartftp.com. It's free, and in my opinion one of the best Windows clients at the moment.

It also supports CUSTOM site commands mapped to a user selected hotkey. Which makes switching in and out of RO / RW mode a charm. And a reboot to check the newly uploaded custom bitmap is no longer away than a press of Alt-9 (or whatever you like it to be).
