At the risk of propogating an off-topic thread, does it write CD-Text when burning discs? I've never seen a pressed disc that has it, but this seems like an opportunity, given that the tags are available.

What MP3 codex does the built in MP3 encoding use? (Lame??? :-)
Does the Ripper function include and error-catching/correcting mode like EAC?
Can the Hard Drive be upgraded or a second one added by advanced users or returning to the factory?
Ethernet sounds like a purchased separatly adapter is required? or is it built-in?
Once on a local network, will it support streaming to anything other than Rio Receivers? i.e. PCs or Macs?

Yes. It's done a good job on my entire collection, including some scratched discs.

It is even easier to add your own hard disk than it is on the car player. Simply install the new drive, boot from the included software CD, and hit the "restore to as new" option.

HPNA networking is built-in. Ethernet is not built-in, but I am successfully using a Linksys USB10T USB-to-Ethernet adapter that cost me $30.00.

MP3 encoding uses the ARM software, based on fraunhoffer (with optimisations). Ripping is in-house software, which copes with most eventualities, and we have something in the wings for the next software update which would pretty much rip a burned pancake if you could fit it in the drive.

Only one drive is supported. Software is included to rebuild a unit with a blank disk from the ground up, so advanced users could upgrade - but not within the terms of the warranty. There is not an official upgrade service.

There's no onboard Ethernet - if you want it you can plug in a USB Ethernet adapter. HPNA and USB are built in.

It users the usual Receiver streaming method based on http - refer to the Rio Receiver BBS to read some threads about, for example, how to stream to WinAmp.
