Has anyone done an install in a late model Tacoma, (preferably 2001)?

Since the empeg is a pullout DIN and there no outer ring to be removed from the fascia, like most new stereos have, it looks like I might have to cut my dash a little, or remove the pull out handle and trim the out side of the fascia on the empeg.

But since I haven't received my RioCar yet I haven't had a chance to confirm.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Given the choice of cutting the car or cutting the player, I'd cut the car every time.

Don't panic, though, you might be just fine. Wait till you get the player and see. Many stereo shops sell installation kits that allow afternarket stereos to fit nicely into the dash, maybe all you need is one of those.

I have a 2000 4 runner. It had the same issue. I didn’t want to make and mods to the trim (it is very expensive), and the empeg will be with me longer than the truck. So i shaved a small (<2mm) portion off the trim so the empeg could slide in up to te handle. Its not noticable. I mounted the sled behind the Toyota trim piece. I had to modify the sled slightly. i moved the connector for the external side of the cage to the internal. This compensates for the 1 cm of trim between the empeg and the sled. Well, I finally got my Empeg installed!
That didn't take too long did it?

I mounted it under my Kenwood head and behind the dash bezel thingy W/O the fascia because I didn't want to cut my dash and I didn't want it sticking out of my dash either.

I'll take pictures when I can get a hold of a digital camera and when I install the new lense.

Anyone know a good place to get transparent colored Acryllic, Lexan or Plexi in the Dallas area?
I need the supplier to be able to cut it to size for me since I don't have those skills.

You might be better off hooking up with DarkStorm to cut you a custom-sized smoke lens or something.
