First you have to install the developer version of the Empeg build.
The connect the serial cable to the unit, create a hyperterminal profile for the com port that your player is connected to. Boot your player, drop to shell.
type rwm

to make it read-only again, type rom

Actually, the easiest way is to install hijack onto the player. Then go into your browser and type the following:

http://empeg.address?rw

Done.

Of course then you're still going to want some type of interface to put stuff on the player. So even though that's the EASIEST, you'll want to use an FTP client to do uploads and downloads. With FTP you can also use SITE commands to mount: SITE rw and SITE ro. As well as SITE reboot.

Read about all this stuff, and more, in the PROGRAMMING forum. This all assumes you have an Mk2 or Mk2a and the empeg is connected via ethernet.

Thanks man that worked great! I didn't even realize you could check out your player via http.... hijack is pretty cool! question about hijack, in the car, is it normal for the player to stay on after you switch the ignition off running hijack? it used to turn off with my vehicle until I upgraded it....

Nope, it's not normal for the unit to stay on. Mine has only done this once. And I wasn't running Hijack yet. Try it again. Then move this discussion over to the bugs section for some more help - or the programming section if you can prove it's hijack's fault.

You can make sure by putting back the regular 2.0b7 kernel, testing and then trying Hijack again (175 is the latest version - havent used that one in the car yet)

It is not normal, but it happens to me a lot, maybe once out of every 20 times I turn off the car. The player will be on, but the amplifiers will be off. Usually (but not always) pulling the player out of the sled and re-inserting it restores it to sanity.

Ya, but in Alaska, I bet one out of 20 times your hand sticks to the metal handle too.
