How do I know what the hostname is for my RioCar when I plug it into a network w/dhcp? Is this something that I can set in the config.ini file?

Thanks for any help anyone might have.

I guess theres no way to properly do this like a PC does eh? You gotta do all that hosts file stuff. It would be cool if the DHCP client looked at a setting in the config.ini file for a hostname=MyRioCar line and updated the DNS with it like a PC does. I'd like to be able to have my friends at work just goto a name instead of running some program first.

If your PC does this (And it's the true DynamicDNS implementation and not windows) 2.0 will try to register a name based off what you set in the config.ini or via emplode. Spaces are replaced with dashes (-). Not sure about other characters.

So I guess this wont work on a Windows based network eh? Bummer. Why is that anyways? Could it be made to work?

No, it won't. Some else mentioned that windows uses some wins server based system to do it. It could be made to work if someone at empeg decided to rewrite the dhcp server for the empeg. That doesnt seem likely though :-(

BTW, the hyphen is a legitimate DNS character, but it's the only non-alphanumeric that is.
