I've been putzing around with winamp and hijack and can't seem to get them to talk to each other. What's the proper way to set things up so when I click on "stream" it will pop open winamp and play?

I think it's just a matter of making sure that WinAmp is associated with MP3 & M3U files.

I associated the m3u files and the mp3 to winamp 3 beta, and when I try to run them, fricking Windows Media Player opens up every time. When I click it from IE it asks if I want it to play from within IE and I say *NO* and it loads up windows media player on me. The file associations are to Winamp oddly enough.

I've been finding this, too, though I was blaming IE6...

What I ended up doing was using the minibrowser in WinAmp - when you click on the MP3 or M3U, it goes straight to the player.

Also, if you get annoyed with always seeing the default page in the minibrowser you can change it by replacing the file "winampmb.htm" in the WinAmp directory. I've changed mine to one that immediately redirects to Hijack's 101?.html page.

Hmmm... it's never as simple as it should be is it. I'm sure it's probably quite easy to get it playing in WinAmp (I just don't know how at the moment). Someone else here must know.
Have you tried re-installing WinAmp?

I tried using the winamp mini browser, which is really still IE. I clicked on "Stream" and it opened up windows media player with a dialog box "invalid data."

I had this happen, when the dialog box comes up I think it says something about remember this preference, once I checked this I didn't see a second time. I have no trouble w/them playing now, when i click the link in I.E. 6 browser (not the Winamp browser) Winamp opens and starts playing the file. Sometimes I don't know how some of things start to work for me and I don't question it.

ive noticed that regardless of file associations, ie6 will load media player automatically. you have to disable it. Theres an option in Tools-options-advanced-check the box "Don't display online media content in the media bar"
That did it for me.

Argh. I can't believe it. Windows Media Player is *STILL* opening up and it isn't even recognizing the m3u !!

I finally solved this by uninstalling winamp beta 3 and downloading the Winamp 2.
