Actually, I think you can. There's probably some linux utility you can run at the shell prompt. Don't have a link to one handy at this time, but I'm sure someone else will jump in here and help out.

One thing is that you'll want to clear the metadata on the fixed tracks and do a re-synch. This way it can properly re-calculate the offset from the beginning of the new header. I think that'll work, not sure.

Yes. My "mp3tool" utility was written for this purpose. There's a link to it on the Hijack site. If you wait 'till morning, I'll recompile the latest source for the empeg.. the one that's there right now is from older source code, and some improvements have been made since then.

Are you sure you did not mean 6 minutes?

Does it work to add/remove VBR tags on the player without frobbing offset and length in the corresponding *1 file?

BTW, you (Mark) have a missing A end-tag on the mp3tool page.

mp3tool just alters the mp3file. So if you use the "--remove" flag, you'll have to do something else (editor, script, ..) to update the length/offset in the corresponding "Tag" files (*1).

But the "--repair" option (for fixing VBR) should not affect the length/offset at all.

Dangling anchor tag now fixed on the web site, thanks.

mp3tool --repair XXXXX

where XXXXX is the mp3 file, or a list of mp3 files.
