I have a question about the temp of my RioCar. I installed the latest Hijack on 2.0b11 and the vital signs show my player at -4c/25F when it's been inside my office all day. Also, the High Temp Warning says that it's corrected by -4c/-7F. Why is this? Also, why does it have the wrong temp?

It is possible that your temp sensor is malfunctioning.

The empeg guys were planning on implementing a temp sensor feature, until they discovered that the temp sensor did not work in all of the production units. Hence, they did not implement the feature because there was no point in taking all those warranty returns back for something that wasn't going to get used.

Back when I had beta 7 on the player this used to work. I just reinstalled b7 and it's broke on it as well. If my temp sensor is not working, can I get it fixed under warrenty? It's less than a year old.

The point I was trying to make is that they deliberately did not enable the temperature-sensing feature in the software because they knew that a certain percentage of the sensors were pants. So, since the temp-sensing is not a supported feature of the player, if the sensor is bad I don't think they'd want to replace it under warranty.

(Anglophiles: Did I use "pants" correctly in that context?)

Isn't the player supposed to have thermal protection against over heating? It would seem that that feature would be comprimised.

Well, it looks like it's the sensor that went bad. I got out my backup player and upgraded it to 2.0b11 and then connected the two players to hyperterm and did the self test...

My original player:

0400 temperature detect
0410 temperature is 00
04f0 temperature ok

My backup:

0400 temperature detect
0410 temperature is 31
04f0 temperature ok

This bites. It's going to bug me now that I know one of my players isn't functioning right.

No, it's never had that feature. The temperature sensor has never been used by any of our software.

Not bad Tony, we'll make a convert of you yet. Now, have you started practicing drinking warm beer yet ?

Mine died a few days ago too. I reported it in the technical forum. Here's a PM from Hugo about it.

In reply to:

It's a SO-8W dallas DS1821S, ISTR it's somewhere just behind the RAM chips - quite a wide chip.

It's surface mount, and so not desparately easy to replace; you may be able to get free samples from www.maxim-ic.com though. Personally, I wouldn't bother replacing it, as it doesn't really perform any useful function wrt to player operation!

Hugo
