Hi all,

just got a telephone call from UPS asking what the unit was supposed to be... and saying that I will have to pay something like 31 Euro (import duties)... Sigh! It'c coming tomorrow to Italy... and on Monday to my place... It' ll be hard to spend the week end... ;-)

How many people did end up payng import taxes (for Europe)... and what was the amount of them? Just curious.. ;-)

I paid a total of 30GBP (approx 45 EUR), including 10 to UPS for "brokerage fees".

Hi,

The customers told me the same value... But what if they ask me for a copy of the original receipt that I printed down after ordering the unit? The value there is a little bit higher... :-)
If I'm not wrong this request was made to another italian on this list...

Thank you for yor answers...

Here I am

All the problems with my order depends on this lower value... my custom agents perhaps knows the real value of the empeg and asked me for documents. Then, when they saw the differences, they told me I have to pay a penalty for this.

Hopefully, Jeremy was so kind and correct to have to pay this penalty for me (uh, not for me... it's not my fault!)

However, taxes for me was 65 euro (for two units) and penalty about 25 euro

Hi!

One important question... Where are your units stuck? Mine is going to be inspected in Bergamo... If the customers are the same... then I've got no chance!!! ;-(

Checking the UPS tracking, I saw a "stato anomalo" mark... and that the customers requested an inspection...

Keep my finger crossed... ;-)

I had to pay GST tax since the value was over NZ$1000,
however thanks to our parallel importing laws, no other taxes and they don't check anything like CE and FCC certifications.

Yes mine was stuck in Bergamo too... and me too had the 'stato anomalo' ('exceptions') in UPS tracking!
I think now all the custom agents in Bergamo knows what an empeg is

However, I have received mine today and... IT ROCKS!!!!! whooowwhooooo!!!

Hi, again...

Mine should get home (to me) very soon as well... ;-)

Enjoy your new toys...!!!

Alberto
P.s.: I see you're waiting for a 30Gb unit as well... How did you manage? Did you order it through Sonic Blue from Europe?!? They don't ship overseas, do they?

I bought two 30GB units, one for Stefano (papinist) and one for his friend, and shipped them to him in Italy. Yes, he paid for them.

Bruno

Hey Stefano, PM me if you have any news on your package.

Hi,
Somebody at UPS told me that the italian customs know exactly the value of the units. Bad luck... ;-(

Bye,

Alberto (now proud owner of an empeg Mk2a)

My parcel was declared the same, this can't be the point...
Germany, Belgium, Italy... should be the same cause it's EU.
I think it depends on the willing and the mood of the customer. :-(

Sigh!

I received the package from carplayer today with two units... after some calls from the italian customs agents (who asked me to provide them with the bill with the real value, since the declared value was once more not matching the one that they know by now)... and the tragic result was that they charged me the almost non sense amount of EUR 255 and something!!!

Needless to say that I feel blue... more than the front glass of my empeg... ;-)

Best regards,

Alberto

Yeah - I payed taxes importing to the UK from the US! The import duty wasn't so bad, the sting was having to pay VAT! (sales tax). The value on my box was the actual value I paid for it (dunno what would happen for insurance purposes otherwise). I spoke with customs to see if I could get a refund - I wasn't going to not pay them when they had my empeg in their hands on my front door! But apparently because it's worth over £36 you have to pay VAT even if it's a private sale or even a gift. Shocking - but worth it I've been waiting for an empeg since I first saw the initial development of it on mp3.com!

It's quite fair really - you would have had to have paid VAT if you'd bought the player in the UK. You shouldn't have been charged any US sales tax.
