I'm trying to guage how many people would like to be able to use jEmplode on OS 9 (i.e. you're not running OS X at all). We decided to drop support for 9 because of the limited Java availability. However, there have been a couple people speaking up that they don't run X yet.

I haven't gotten much email from OS 9 people, so if you're out there, let me know so I know if I need to reevaluate this decision.

Mike,

I tried to install Swing but was not sure where to put it. I tried it in the JEmplode folder and in the MRJ Libraries folder in the System Extensions folder. Still getting the same error message.

I would like to transition to OSX but still find myself reverting to OS 9 from time to time. I have a great Apple Talk laser printer that that won't get along with OSX, a fine SCSI scanner that won't get along with OSX, a USB Compact Flash reader that won't get along with OSX etc. etc.... I am working through these slowly but am not ready to toss all of my peripherals just yet

In summary, OS 9 will be around for a while.

Lynn

I'm putting out a new 2.0b11 in just a minute that will include OS 9 support.

I love how off-handed comments on the BBS can turn into features in minutes.

I'm uploading to sourceforge now, but there is a Mac OS 9 version on http://www.jempeg.org now... Give it a try and let me know how it works out.

Mike,

I found a file labled "jemplode2b11-MacOS-VM.bin" on your SourceForge page. I hope this is the correct file! In any case it does now execute and looks to behave normally but seems to stall while trying to download data from the Empeg.

I see Ethernet traffic when it first identifies the Empeg but none after that. I can connect normally with Emplode from the PC and ftp seems to behave normally. Perhaps I have something else screwed up oon the Mac, I'll keep looking at it.

Thanks for the quick response.

I'll have to boot up classic and try it out --- I actually just tested with JDK 1.1 on my Win32 box.

OK -- I tracked down the problem ... It was an incorrect library in the MacOS installer. Not sure why the Windows installer got the correct one but the Mac OS 9 didn't. Oh well. If you want just a short download, you can go to http://www.jempeg.org and download the "standalone jar" and replace the jemplode20.jar in your install directory. If you want to just reinstall fresh, I've replaced the Mac OS 9 installers on jempeg.org and sourceforge. I've actually tested this one on my OS 9 box, so I know it works

.. and by the way, that file you mentioned was the correct file to download.

Yes I run it on Mac OS 8.6.

The latest version (2.0b11) actually works well on my machine and I uploaded a bunch of songs with it last night.

Small bug in JEmplode on Mac OS (but not on my NT box at work):

If you highlight all the songs on an album (say to fix the year) then you right click (which on a Mac is typically mapped to control-click since we all are supposed to be using one button mice) the properties box pops up, but the item you right clicked on is now unselected (no longer highlighted) and no changes happen to that item.

So for it to work right you have to select all but any one item, then right click on that one and make your changes. It will highlight that last unselected item and make changes to all of the items in the list.

Mike, you might want to look at MouseEvent.isPopupTrigger() if you don't already use it.

Another bug on MacOS 8.6 - 2.0b11 PR32 works OK, but I finally downloaded 2.0b11 PR34 and it would not recognize any of the data from the MP3 tags. I even tried a couple of version of the tags. Switching back to PR32 the same files were recognized.

Mike has been made aware that the new ID3 library he switched to isn't working for everyone. Dunno what he's going to do about it, exactly...
