I know I will probably be shot for asking..

But I use my rio at work and home.. and once and a while I would like to be able to do this.. copy a file off the rio car. Is there a system for doing this? any software out there to upgrade rio car?

Plus.. does anyone know where I can buy an extra wire harness? I want to make my own docking station of sorts for it.

it's right here.

Searching the FAQ is getting difficult since it is huge and there are no options for "and" searches instead of full string searches.

The only problem with the download, is that it doesn't seem to keep the directory structure intact . I have spent a lot of time getting my play lists setup, and I would like to copy everything back to my HD as a backup, but, when I tried, it started dumping everything into one directory.

You'll want to use Jemplode then. It now has a function to allow for proper naming and directory structure on download... at least i think it does dirs...

I know Tony just figured this out the other day and made a post about it. I think it's in this thread.

That was me. The post is here. I didn't get too far into it before I was able to get Displayserver 2 to reliably backup my Empeg. I then used MP3 Tag Studio to put the MP3s into the proper folder structure.

thanks :-)

so you never finished that then?
I think it's be useful for someone not wanting to put displayserver on...

edit: as I re-read that thread I realized you were using displayserver 1.1
but something could work with display Hijack now trough ftp...right?

As was already pointed out, you can copy files from the player using the Download feature. However, don't forget to read this FAQ entry, too. This is important.

any software out there to upgrade rio car?

Yes. In fact, if you want to download songs off the player, you'll have to upgrade to 2.0 beta 11. Details are here.

Plus.. does anyone know where I can buy an extra wire harness? I want to make my own docking station of sorts for it.

You cannot buy the wiring harness separately. You can, however, easily purchase a complete extra docking bay (including the connector) and make a complete home component box around it. Several other users have done this. Remember that the car has two different personalities: Home and Car, and it uses/remembers different settings for each. The way it knows the difference between Home and Car is whether or not there's a plug in its home-power receptacle. So most home docking stations have a system where they supply power via this plug instead of through the sled. Also, docked ethernet is tricky. See here.

It was written to work as a companion to displayserver 1.1. It just acted as a front end to preserve your playlist structure.

I bought an extra harness from Empeg (before Rio buyout) for $45 back in the day.
