Persistant Wendy Filters?

I didn't see this in the FAQ, but I have a "Music Only" filter that filters out Seasonal Music, sound effects, test tones, etc. But, after using it, the next time I get in the car, the filter is turned off and playback resumes at the wrong song...
Is there any way to make the filter stay on between power ups?

I'm pretty sure Wendy filters are supposed to get remembered across power pulls. If yours are not, this might be a new bug. Can anyone verify this problem?
Also, just in case it's a problem with reading the filters from config.ini, is it possibly this bug?

Tony, if it is a bug, it is not a random one. It happens every single time. I have never fooled around with my config.ini file (but who knows what I did during my last hard disk upgrade! ). I have my null-modem serial cable here and will check it out.

Just look at the config.ini in Emplode and see if the favorites section is huge or not.

My favorites section is empty... never used it yet. Is there anything I can do to help isolate this? Should I do another install of beta 11?

No, that was just a wild guess. It could very well just be a bug in the beta. Does anyone from empeg know if this is true?

On a side note, why does installing b11 again remove my IP settings, Wendy Filters and everything... I could understand most things getting erased, but I thought the Wendy Filter info was store in the FID?

Upgrading to beta 11 should not remove those things. Only a corrupted or too-big-because-of-the-favorites-bug "config.ini" file will cause those things to disappear. Check your config.ini file for corruption again.

Tony, I don't see how to "check" it other than just replace it via that FAQ link you posted. Should I do that and see if it goes away?

Is there a way I can check the size of the config.ini or otherwise check it out without deleting it first?

Yes.
You have to be set up to be able to edit the config.ini file through emplode. If you are not set up to do this, you need to look here in the RioCar FAQ to see how to set that up.
Then, all you have to do is go into emplode/tools/edit config.ini, it will pop it up on the screen and you can look at it, edit it, do whatever you like. I recommend copying it to your clipboard and then saving it as a text file somewhere just to have a known-good backup copy.
If your config.ini is suffering from the "corrupted first line" problem, I think your emplode config.ini editor won't work, and you'll have to delete the config.ini file.

Update: My config.ini file was wack, but after fixing it (and I confirmed twice that it was fine), the player is STILL not remembering to apply the Wendy Filter after a power cycle.
Here is how it is working:
1. Say I suffle the root. The player will be playing on track 10 of 9266.
2. I apply the "Music Only" filter, and after a short pause, the player continues with the same song, but this time at track 10 of 8931. (This is normal).
3. While the track is 1/2 way through, I power down the player.
4. Upon booting, the player is now 1/2 through on track 10 of 9266! But track 10 is a different song!
5. Before my config.ini fix, it would usually start at 0:00 AND the wrong song (usually a track or two earlier in the playlist than it was supposed to be at).
Also, on AC power, the player is always defaulting to the last non-full screen info mode even if the "Track" mode was manually selected prior to powering down. I think someone else has brought this one up... so it is most likely a known bug.

I can verify this bug. I looked at my config and it seems to be ok. Every single time I boot the thing up, Wendy filters are off. I also have a music only filter, and a lot of times I don't realize it is off until the empeg queues up a song effect, or worse.

Calvin,
Thank you! I was logging on to the internet for several days now looking for a reply and even posted in the "Bug Reports" with no word...
The worst is when the "Police Car and Chase" sound effect kicked in while I was driving!
So is this a bug, or is this how filters are built to work.

yeah no kidding. I've had gunshots and cannon ball impacts explode in the middle of a nice piano solo. :-D ouch!!!!
I have a collection of "nature sounds" that go on for hours, and a collection of commercials from the mid century in there as well. It's kind of amusing when a commercial from the 1950's kicks off in the middle of a playlist, but the sound effects.., etc. Doesn't work.

I never thought any one would ADD commercials to an mp3 player! isn't one of the reasons to get an mp3 player to get RID of commercials? hehe I'm kidding of course, becuase that sounds really cool!
check out this site for odd sound bites: http://www.earthstation1.com/

All I can say is they had some very addictive jingles back then!

For some fun jingles, try The Who Sell Out. (It took ages to rip correctly, as my CD doesn't separate the jingles from the songs with their own index marks, so I spent a lot of time splitting them in the waveform editor...)
