I seen that auxiliary source is reachable from menu in home mode. But is there a way to connect to an aux input? (without the factory tray)

Correct, you need a docking sled to have Aux available. Note that it's possible to connect a home-power jack even in a docking sled, so these are not mutually exclusive states.

I was looking in the FAQ and I don't understand if you can actually use the AC power while in a docking sled, or only make it think it's on AC power.
So is it possible to use AC power in the docking sled, or do I need to get a DC voltage supply of some sort if I build a home docking station? Thanks...

You can do either. Whatever works for you.

Be careful. The player runs only on DC current.

When we say "AC power", that's actually shorthand for "12vDC electricity supplied through an AC adapter such as the one that came with your player, into the player's home-connection jack."

So actually, it's not really AC power. It's just shorthand for describing the two different player personalities depending on where it thinks its power is coming from. It still has to be 12vDC in all cases.

I wonder if it would be hard to go re-do every entry in the FAQ that says "AC power" and re-word it to "AC adapter power"?

OK let me re-word the question... Can you use the AC adapter plug while it's in the sled, or does the power have to come thru the sled connection itself?

Yes, you can use the AC adapter plug while in the sled - there's a cut-out at the back of the sled that allows access. This is what several of the guys building home docking stations are doing, check out those threads...

sed is included in the Cygnus tools and vi (or derivates) is available for windows too... Not to favor any side in the holy editor war - emacs is available for windows too

Not only can you use it, but you should use it -- the boot firmware won't allow software/kernel upgrades when not powered by the AC adaptor. (weird).
